Option 1: Work 3 days, kids in daycare 4 days, so 1 free day for 'yourself'

Option 2: Work 3 days, kids in daycare 3 days and get a cleaner.

I currently work 2 days and have a nanny for those days but it's all changing in the next month or so.

I'm NOT a domesticated person so I'm veering towards Option 2 as Option 1 would leave me doing housework and groceries anyway.

I'm interested in hearing what others would do.

Option 2 - hands down - nothing beats having someone else clean your house for you.
For me going to work is kinda the me time as it would be time away from the kids.

Option 1 for me sorry! I kinda like cleaning once I get into it, I hate other people cleaning for me, or putting stuff where it isn't meant to go etc!

I would definitely go option 2! I hate cleaning and you also get to spend an extra day with the kiddies. :)

Yep, definitely option 2 if funds allow. I agree with C&J that going to work is still time out from the children, and there may be times where you can have an afternoon off to yourself, lunch out etc etc.

I'd choose option 2 as well. I LOVE having someone else doing all the chores I hate. And I love that having someone else doing that stuff means that I can spend more time with Callum just hanging out and having fun

I like option 2 as well. If you are saving a day's childcare for 2 kids, a cleaner would be a fair investment I think

Thanks ladies you helped clarify things in my head

DH was suggesting option 1 but it would hardly feel like a day off when I'd have to get up, feed them and get them out the door anyway.

I'd do option one....you have a nanny for two days so they should at least keept the girls room tidy. You then have one full day for yourself and that doesn't mean you have to clean in that day. Cleaning can be done in the weekend or on a day when you are at home with the girls. Every day you end up tidying, its just that for some small amount of time you need to do a proper clean.

Plus sometimes its nice to go out with the girls and the nanny, ie not having to do it all yourself but then your girls are a little older so that might not be such a problem.

I just think that the idea of having a full day where you can plan something that might not necessarily involve the girls to be very 'recharging' IYKWIM

Option 2 sounds like a winner to me too. For exactly the same reasons as C&J outlined

I'd choose Option 2 simply as you get to spend more time with the kids.  Is your carer flexible - like if you have to attend an appt after work or NEED time to yourself, can you pick your kids up later, that sort of thing?

If I had my way I'd probably work 40 hrs, but because there is a balance to consider I only do 15 hrs per week.  I want to do what's right for my child while still maintaining some healthy variety for myself.  My carer is flexible, so sometimes she looks after Brooke for a little longer if I've got something else I really must get done.

BTW a cleaner sounds heavenly!  Make sure you get receipts from them and you may be able to claim back a tax rebate.

If it were me I'd definitely go option 2 because a) I want to spend as much time as possible with my children and would feel terrible putting them into care on a day off and b) I'm not so fond of housework and I'm really looking forward to a time in the distant future when I can hire a cleaner again (whenever I've suggested hiring someone DH offers to do the housework for a fee).

Option 2
That's a fantastic idea!
I never thought of it that way. I'm signed up for 4days daycare. Work 3 days, untill next month when I will work 4 days. I thought I should pick up the 5th day, now I'm thinking I should get a cleaner

Id go option 1 but thats only cos im at uni as well and a whole day to catch up on notes and write assignments etc sounds like absolute heaven. i get to do it once DS is in bed anyway but a whole day dedicated would be amazing beyond words and would almost entirely clear every evening so i could watch TV or hang out with DH etc...not to mention the fact that DH does alot of the chores anyway so i have my own part-time cleaner :P

I'd do option 1. Cos I'd want to spend as much time with the kids as I can if they're in daycare part time. And I hate cleaning. In fact I've just gone back to work 3 days last week and when Morgan starts daycare in a couple of weeks I'm going to get a cleaner!
But having a day without the kids sounds awesome!!! (I couldn't justify the cost myself, or the time away from my "baby" but I do contract work so can sneak some hours to myself here and there if I need to). When I just had Jake he was booked in fulltime (didn't cost much more than 3 set days), but I only put him in the hours I worked (contract work) but that meant I did get the odd extra day or half day to get things done, which made life so much easier.
