Hi, I've decided to change to clothe nappies and I am wondering what ones people consider to be the best. I need one that is very absorbant as my boy seems to have a huge bladder! And of course it must contain those runny bm poos.
I'd love to hear your opinions

thats a loaded question! LOL! everyone has a different opinion on this. once you figure out if you want fitted nappies, or prefolds or pockets, or all in ones, then there is the one size or not question. then there are the different brands....
there is a very good comparison chart on the snazzipants website and they do a great fitted nappy as well as sell different other brands as well. Itti bittis are a very popular all in one nappy but they arent the most absorbent unless boosted. Honey child or fuzzi bunz are a popular choice in pockets. there is also a list of kiwi nappy retailers on here, it is stickied so should be easy to find. and last of all not all nappies suit all babies, so trying is the best way to find one that suits your baby. did you check the snazzipants site. they have pros and cons listed for most types.
for newborns i prefered either flats or a prefold and cover. i did have some cute fitteds for my last baby too. i like both pockets and fitteds. fitteds do require a cover but in summer i never bothered if they were just running round at home. i find a lot of all in ones give my daugher nappy rash but really loved the bubblebubs. i know that mothers instinct stock them. i mostly use pockets though.... there are some great kiwi made pockets out there incl bib and tucker and wigglebums and honey child (which are the top end of the market though price wise). ------------- http://www.myfitnesspal.com/weight-loss-ticker">

Yup, it's mega confusing but I ended up buying a few types on recommendations from friends then deciding which ones I liked and wanted more of. I've bought all of them second hand off Trademe. Here's some of the ones I've tried. Itti bitti's; I've found them to be a bit leaky for poos and don't last as long as some of the other nappies for wees, even with a booster. But I like them because they're incredibly cute and smaller between the leg/lower at the front so I feel they let baby wriggle her legs around more than some of the other chunky nappies. Fuzzi bunz pockets; I absolutely love these. You can add lots of boosters and inserts if needed and I find they rarely leak and my girl is a monumental wetter. I have just bought some more in the next size up. Prefolds with covers. I have super brite covers (check the snazzipant site) that have a double elastic around the leg. I don't do any tricky folding, just the standard trifold. I need boosters for Kiara as well but the super brite covers are brilliant at containing even the most horrendous of poosplosions. Ecobubs wool pockets. I've just ordered 2 brand new ones (horrendously expensive but good resale value) as I've heard great things about them as a night time nappy that needs to last a long time. Snazzipants AOI. Good night time nappy but need a cover over them. I like them but for no particular reason I don't love them. Pea Pods. I like the insert but I always end up with leaks. Lots of great advice from the replies! best idea is to buy a couple of brands/types and try them out before investing in just 1 brand.

I did look at the Snazzipants website and it was great but just as I thought I'd decided what I wanted I'd read more and get confused again! I think I might try a few different ones and see what works for my boy as it sounds like different nappies work for different babies. |

I love itti's I love the smallness/trimness of them. Don't like pockets at all, even for night. The ones I've had have been really wide between the leg compared to the itti's. Part of the reason I don't like Pockets is reaching into the pocket to get all the wet inserts out. Dumb I know but that's just me. My boy is really skinny & I guess that is why Itti's are great on him, but also look after a little girl who's really chubby & itti's are great on her too. ------------- Kel http://lilypie.com">

We use homemade pockets and itti bittis AIOs during the day (but prefer the pockets) and use ecobubs wool at nights 
If you have a sewing machine you can make your own pockets really cheaply... |

I like ittis because they are nice and trim and easy to use. I also use honey childs because you can boost them up and they last DS 12 hours+ overnight.

In my trials and errors I have found fitted nappies to be the best for heavy wetters, BM poos and for nights.
I've been using Snazzipants fitted (cotton) and Bummis covers on my girl since she was newborn. I've tried a few (OK more than a few) different types of nappies and actually wish I'd brought TotsBots nappies (bamboo) as they are more absorbent (note: more absorbent means slightly longer drying time) and I like the fit of them better on my girl. The sizing seems to last a little bit longer than the Snazzipants ones - my girl isn't massive but probably above average for her age. You could also look at a hemp fitted nappy which drys quicker than bamboo and is more absorbent than cotton. Baby BeeHinds do a good fitted One-Size-Fits-Most Hemp and Bamboo nappy. Thanks Ladies! I was acutally going to ask if anyone had tried totbots because I see they do a nappy trade in system and they look super easy to use, great for DH!
All your advice has been fantastic, I am acutally quite excited to try out cloth nappies and see what works. |
