Im being extremely nosey here. But i got curious about why others joined OB and how they found out about a website like this

Me I had been a member of another site overseas(this other site has nothing on OB) and I had completely forgotten that these places existed.
I had been TTC for over a year and had just got my AF at a friends wedding and i had thought that i was pregnant so was devastated and got horribly drunk and spent the whole next day bawling my eyes out feeling extremely alone.
I then decided to do a search for some support groups around cos i really wanted to talk to other people who were having trouble conceiving and not feel so alone.

When i did the search on google i came across something that directed me to OB and Ive not looked back since....

I got some awesome tips on charting and then went on to concieve 3rd month after joining here, then MCed which I was so thankful to have met the lovely ladies (with a couple of exceptions) who helped me through that and then concieved again the next month and now have a wonderful online friendship with some awesome ladies. theres been a couple of bumps along the way as you get with a forum full of ladies but for the most part its been one of the best things i have come across. I suffered from depression while pregnant after a growth was found on my brain, so a few ladies helped me through that also.......

I honestly dont know what i would do with out this site most days........... A BIG THANK YOU to all those wonderful people (and you know who you are) that have been there for me or just been a friendly ear to me or offered advise to me and treated me with respect

So why did you join?

I was living in japan, and although happily married, unexpectantly pregnant and freaked out....and then met other people equally as pregnant, some equally freaked, but everyone who helped me, answered my questions and were reassuring about pregnancy considering the japanese system was confusing and scary

I kept hearing about OB from the ladies who were on NZWP...you seemed to kind of "graduate" really, from NZWP to OB! It was a lot smaller back then though!!! I wasn't even TTC, but went through some stuff that the awesome ladies on here helped me deal with. And I've never looked back!!

ETA: I just did a quick search and first posted back in 2006...so 4 years ago

Mine was to make some friends and though I have only met a few people from here - I enjoy talking to people who are going through the same or similar situations as me.

The reason I wanted to meet friends was because most of my friends that had kids had older kids and also lived out of wellington region and the people I knew in the region worked full time. I had a plunket group for when my daughter was born BUT they all went back to work a few months later so I was at home with noone to talk to in the end I ended up going back to work when DD was 6 mths old. This time I am planning on not going back to work for a few yrs - have just enrolled to do some study and will only try and do one paper every few months not to overdo it with 1 child at school etc.

Ditto!! Lurked for a while then plucked up the courage to actually join.... 3.5 years ago now!! Was in the 2ww when it had only just been started, then met all my lovely friends in the Jan\Feb 2OO8 thread... along with the rest of you of course! I don't post as much as I used to, but OB still feels like "home" to me.

Mine was because my counselor suggested I find a forum to talk with other mums on as I am incredibly shy and found it really hard to talk to people i didn't know, also because i was so young i had no current friends who had any idea what i was going through. So i google searched something and happened to find ohbaby. It has been a God send. I have met people with babies and had heaps of advice on different things. I LOVE OHBABY!!!!! I love how understanding and non judgemental everyone is on here. No one has once said anything hurtful to me. Ohbaby has been one of the things over the last few years that has boosted my confidence and encouraged me to be assertive in what i think and to go for things rather than sitting back scared.
Once again I LOVE OHBABY

I joined cause I was trying to figure out if I was pregnant & I came across the TWW via google. I was googling pregnancy symptoms.

I had friends I could talk to on email but they weren't in the same place at the same time as me. I kinda progressed from there.

The help I've received either directly or indirectly via this site & friends I've made off it has been so valuable & I thank everyone of you.

I've learned so much & I hope in return that I can pass on what I've learnt as well to newer OB'ers or older OB'ers dealing with new problems.

I found the website through a tile ad on the NZ Herald site for the yearly huge competition OB does.

I joined because we had just decided to TTC and I'm so glad I did because most of the Dec/Jan/Feb mums in my due date threads were on that journey (and that thread) with me.

and I'm still hopeful that one year I'll actually win the comp

I clicked on an ad on weddings.co.nz, we were just married and TTC already. I lurked for a while till I got my BFP because I was really paranoid that joining a baby website would jinx it

I LOVE it here. There's always someone ready to give you a cyber hug or some advice, I love that there's so many different opinions and things to try. Plus I live overseas right now but we plan on coming home one of these days so it's nice to have a connection with home that involves Callum even though it's "just" online.

I have met some LOVELY women through my due in thread and even met up with some of them when I came home on holiday. Last week one of the girls stopped off in Singapore with her family on their way home as well. We had a great day together and I would never have met her without OhBaby!

Awwww. Group Hug

I joined cos Im in Aus and wanted to stay in touch with Kiwi's and kiwi Mums. It was also like what Kate said, a 'graduation' from NZWP.

I love OB, it has been a god send for me through TTC and raising a baby away from home and family, and for the most part enjoy the community and what people offer.

The one thing I dont like is the fact I cant go to meet up's which makes me miss home far too much.

Ex NZWPer here too - Mumtoparis was originally in our getting married year and was going through her MC which I started following on OB.
That was like 2007!  Half the mums that were there then have gone as their kids are in school!
Gosh by the time my kids reach school age - I'll have been on OB for 10 years! Hope it keeps going for that long.

I think I was googling something to do with pregnancy symptoms and came across it.    I wasn't pregnant at the time so I didn't come back until a few months later when I actually was pregnant with Sam. That was Sep 2006.   Ohbaby has been a godsend for me, as the support was just so amazing when I went through a lot of yucky times with Sam's dad, and then after meeting my wonderful new partner and becoming pregnant with Jamie two weeks after we met!     I'll be on here forever!   We plan on having two more kids.

OB had an advertising banner on weddings.co.nz and a few people from there made the progression over so when DH and I decided to start trying it was the natural choice to make.

I'm glad I did too

My friend was googling the stages of pregnancy week by week, she sent me the link to see where my peanut was at that stage, then every week i went on to look, then i realized there was a forum, i lurked for quite a while, finally joined and now read everyday! Being young i wanted to do the best for my baby and i read a heap while pregnant, once i found this site it had everything i needed. I can certainly say im a better mum because of the knowledge on this site!

Wow, what an awesome read! Great idea for a thread too!

I joined OHbaby! way back in the dim and dusty past when it was brand new, and when most of our current members were years away from even thinking about babies! Originally, I found OHbaby! via a google search when I was first pregnant with Maya Grace. I was young and single and pregnant and scared, and my mum lives in a different country, so I was looking for any advice and information I could get my hands on. There were no forums here to start with, but I liked the weekly pregnancy updates, and then when the forums launched in Sept 2003 I joined in the chat. There were only about a dozen or so active members to start with, but it was such a supportive environment, and in November 2003 we had the first ever OHbaby! "IRL" meet up in Auckland. I still keep in touch with a few of the people from those early days, altho their kids are all in school now so they don't post much here anymore.

Then I started working for OHbaby! in September 2004, by this stage the community was quite a bit bigger, but still relatively small. Then in early 2005, we started TTC the gremlins, we didn't tell anyone IRL or online as we didn't know how long it would take, got pregnant in Dec 2005 and miscarried which absolutely devastated me. The support and love I had from the OHbaby! community was absolutely overwhelming, and continued on thru my very difficult subsequent pregnancy with the gremlins. By this stage, we had enough members to establish "Due in..." groups. I think the "Due in July 2006" was our first official one.

Now, OHbaby! is so huge I can hardly keep up with all the goings on, but I do try to pop in whenever I can to see how everyone is getting on. It's funny to think that the first batch of OHbaby! babies are now 7 and 8 years old, and that I can remember when a lot of the "oldies" first found out they were pregnant, right thru pregnancy and birth etc. and now their "babies" are starting school.

It was smaller when I joined, too! My SIL found it when she was expecting her daughter, and mentioned it to me. At that time, I was only thinking about TTC - so I've been from the Waiting to TTC thread to the TWW etc threads, to the infertility boards, and now to the August 10 thread

I moved across from NZWP too. Even though I spent a while (3 years ) in the waiting to TTC part, it was really neat to have a link to NZ while I was overseas, and to make friends that were at the same stage in their lives as I was. My IRL friends are mostly just getting married now, whereas DH and I just celebrated our 4th anniversary.

I joined on a different site after having a missed m/c and trying to deal with it all myself (was a messy situation as my partner was away, and mw didn't help me, so I didn't have support I needed) so a few months after it happened I googled a forum and got it all off my chest, really helped me at the time, then found out I was pregnant again so didn't really want to hang around same forum and googled searched a nz site, had a look around here first before posting and loved the fact there was a due date thread, so joined in there, and they were lovely!

Was so good to have people of all backgrounds, situations, all in the same boat as me and I learnt so much more chatting in here, no matter what problems I had with Keira after she was born I could jump on here anytime and use search function

What is NZWP?

I googled to look for stuff about infertility and TTC stuff and found ohbaby. Finally got up the duff and so joined the due in months and love having those ladies to talk to. It is great to have people with babies the same age....I live in a small town in Aussie and there are hardly any new mums here and I really miss having all my family and friends so it is great support!

Plus I wanted to be on a kiwi website as Aussies are just plain crazy lol...I have looked at a couple of aussie ones but they all seem tricky haha.

I totally get what you mean. I came across the main site looking for NZ sites with info on pregnancy when I was UTD the first time and signed up for the weekly pregnancy updates. Had never really used a forum before until I clicked through from an OB email newsletter one day and lurked a bit. But I think I didn't post until I was about to go on maternity leave (well into 3rd tri) and I did feel a bit trepidatious about jumping into a conversation that had been going for a while without me.

I haven't been shy about posting once I got started though, as the July 08 girls can tell you - many of whom have become very dear friends IRL

I dont know how long i have been on here, maybe since i was pregnant.

Most my friends who had babies werent a huge help at the time, i guess they parent differently to what i expected myself to be like. So i came online looking for support from others who think similar to me.

Ive only started coming on here alot more lately. I know quite a few people from here irl.

I can't really remember how I came across it. I had never been in a forum before in fact I only ever used a computer for work purposes. I think the girls were around 3 months old when I found OB and it has been such a life saver! I wish I had found it when I was pregnant it would have been reassuring to talk to other pregnant women especially Mums with twins.

I can't remember how I found OB but I think I must've googled it. That was back in '07 when I found out I was preg with Jake. I was in a bad relationship and super-isolated, and my BFP was a suprise! I had hyperemesis and was just generally miserable.
I stuck to my due date thread for the entire pregnancy I think lol (hasn't that changed?!) then after Jake was born everything went pear-shaped in RL and I remember feeling too ashamed to post about it then I didn't have access to the net. I thought bout OB alot though and when things kinda settled down last year I found my way back
I like the fact that even though I can be a PITA everyone is still nice to me and someone is always on the other end of my posts IYKWIM. If I'm lonely or depressed and getting too introverted and isolated I know there'll be someone on OB to either offload too or to distract me from my probs.
You guys have been a literal lifesaver a couple of times. Thankyou

I was stalking my neice in her last trimester to see if she had delivered yet. (I think it was 16 days over by memory so I managed to develop a good OB habit in that time) She was in one country I was in another and neither were in NZ. So it was a easy way to keep up to date on how she was doing. My youngest was 2 years so I could still relate to alot that was going on. I have since come to rely on the general chat thread to fight the boredom since my now 4 year old is getting more self sufficient. I am back in NZ but my neice is still away so I still lurk to see how my great nephew is doing.

ETA I had to join so I could post her good news to the rest of the due in group.
