Hi Ladies
Well after 2 recurrent miscarriages I have decided when I get my next BFP I will try taking 1x low dose aspirin - the thing is, there are different strengths you can take, either 75mg or the Cartia 100mg, i'm just wondering if there are any ladies out there that are taking low dose aspirin and which type you are taking? - I have already spoken to my doctor about taking this when I next get my BFP, which she said it wont do any harm, but i've just noticed that there are two types of aspirin and forgot to ask her what strength to take - i'm sure 100mg is ok? I also suffer from recurrent miscarriages and so for this pregnancy am taking 75mg aspirin. I have asked my nurse the exact same question about the 75 & 100 and she said either will do in terms of low dose aspirin. I get the heart ones or cartia from the supermarket, some of the ones I have are also 100mg so yeah either will be fine. Thanks for your reply! - Great, i've seen the Cartia ones in the supermarket so will grab a packet when i'm next in the supermarket! - So how long have you been taking the aspirin? Before BFP or after? - And i'm really sorry for your losses as well - good luck to you - and is this the first time you've taken the aspirin as well? - would love for you to keep me posted and hear how your going. After three recurrent miscarriages in the last couple of years we went to Fertility Associates in Hamilton and our specialist diagnosed us as having recurrent miscarriages. I have been taking the aspirin for about the last ten months, specialist advised us to take it whilst trying to conceive. We have since done our first cycle of ivf and managed to get a bfp first try, so specialist has recommended I stay on the aspirin for the duration of the pregnancy, not too sure when I stop it, I guess sometime near the end of the third trimester so hopefully it does the trick. The other thing you could ask your doctor about is progesterone support during the first trimester which may help as well. HTH's ------------- http://lilypie.com">

| I was the same as Appy and was on low dose aspirin (75mg - it was prescribed) for the duration that I was TTC and then up to week 10 of my pregnancy. I was also on progesterone pessaries as well though, as my progesterone was insufficient to support a pregnancy (we had 3 m/c in a row so we were under specialist care also). |

Yip, I'm the same as the others, 3 mc's so onto aspirin (I'm on 100mg) and progesterone pessaries - which might I add, I get to finish in 1.5 weeks, YAY!!!!!!! I was always going to be on aspirin regardless of mc's though as I have a blood clotting disorder. I took it while TTC. Apologies for all the questions but i'm getting myself confused - So is the 100mg aspirin perfectly safe to take then, or should I just stick to the 75gm - i'm not even sure what the difference is? - I know lots of ladies have taken the 75gm aspirin, but I also know in myself if I go ahead and take the 75mg and have another miscarriage, i'll probably blame myself that the doseage wasn't high enough? But i'm also a bit nervous about taking the 100mg incase it does something to the baby - surely the Cartia 100mg is safe to take? - I'm just getting myself a bit confused and not sure now which dosage to take! - urgh!! - so did the doctor prescribe you the '100mg' or is tha what you purely brought from the chemist? Sorry, just saw this now. I was just buying the 100mg Cartia, then saw the Signature Range at Countdown which seems to be exactly the same but cheaper. And then I found out that the gp could prescribe it even cheaper so I did that and she also prescribed me 100mg Yes it's perfectly safe for the baby. Just don't get a fright if you develop huge bruises but don't even remember hurting yourself, that is happening quite often to me lol! | Hi there. I had 3 miscarriages then started on 100mg aspirin daily, and 5mg folic acid. I then got pregnant, and took the folic acid to 12 weeks and are still on the 100mg aspirin, which I will take to 36 weeks. I am currently 29 weeks and all is well!! The the main reason 100mg is used is that it is subsidised on prescription, the 75mg is not. Good luck!! |

after recurrents I was on cartia for 4 months exactly when we got UTD. I will stay on cartia until closer to EDD then go off it to prevent too much bleeding at birth.
You can get your doc to test for anticardiolipin syndrome - its rare but we found out thats what I have and we would have carried on losing babies if he hadn't tested for it. I found cartia is cheaper at pac n save when its on special than the docs prescription - so I stock up. | I just have to ask if I start taking cartia now ( on day 28 of my cycle ) along with folic acid, how soon does it start to work? Like any ladies who have tried it after long periods of no conception, how long was the gap between taking aspirin/folic acid and positive tests? |

| So I have had 4 Mc after my daughter was born and a friend has said I should try a low dose asprin with this pregnancy. I did a bit of research and have got cartia 100mg but I have just read back and it says don't use when pregnant. Has anyone else used this during pregnancy and did it help and was it save? Thanks |

| Thanks. I'm only 6 weeks at moment. I was on medication for migrans with my daughter and they worked as blood thinners and I haven't really thought about that with the Mc I have had so I will go to my doc to discuss this as I am thinking it might help with this one. |

| Hi I used aspirin after a loss. I have looked into the limited research and it’s not successful in multiple pregnancy loss (likely because if this is a clotting issue you need to be on much stronger ant-clotting medication and under the medical advice of a fertility expert). It did say a subgroup of women who did well were ones that had one loss and had conceived relatively quickly after that single loss. I had one loss then conceived about 18 months later (I was already taking the 100mg on and off as we were travelling and doing some really long travel days so I was taking it as a DVT prevention), once I found out I was pregnant I started taking it every day (without medical advice as I did not have access to it at the time). When I got back to New Zealand I did ask an afterhour’s doctor I saw due to having the flu and my GP and midwife. None of them where happy to recommend it but they were OK with me taking it as my choice, the midwife reminded me to stop it well before birth to stop excessive bleeding. I when down to the 75mg and took it till I was about 20 weeks (then I got haemorrhoids so extra bleeding was not a good idea so stopped it). This baby has stick through a lot including backpacking around South East Asia, if the aspirin had anything to do with it I’m not sure we are 31 weeks now. I would use the aspirin again next pregnancy but would start it from trying to conceive and stop at 14 weeks. |

My fertility specialist prescribes it for me to take as part of the Colorado protocol with Ivf. I take it from day 2 of cycle and throughout pregnancy. I lost my last at 22wks due to a brain issue but the plan was to stop taking it at about 36 wks at latest. Midwife was going to keep an eye on my bloods and if anything changed I was to stop. I have no idea if it worked but prior to that pregnancy I'd had two chemicals and a miscarriage. I'd probably not take it without doctors advice. ------------- TTC since Oct 2009 4 x DI's failed IVF1 CP & MC IVF2 CP IVF3 Angel baby born 22.3wks |
