Ok this is starting to become really weird!
Ever since we got our bfp our female cat has taken to sleeping either on my pillow with her paw on my head, under the covers between my knees or on my stomach or back depending on how I'm laying.
If I'm sitting on the couch she is either on me or draped around my neck on the back of the couch with a paw on my shoulder or head.
She follows me everywhere around the house & outside to the clothesline - even to the toilet and shower! If I shut any doors she manically scratches to be let in & near me.
DH used to be her fav - but she doesn't want a bar of him at the moment!
Anyone else had/have this problem & if so how do I stop her being soooo possessive???
And what will she be like once the babies get here?
HELP!

My cat has to be on my belly if I am on the couch, he is very cute but it is a bit much at times. Bubs is either going to love or hate him after having him purring in her ear all the time!
I haven't had him following me everywhere though, that would be a bit annoying after a while. Hopefully she settles down soon.

I have two cats, one female, one male... the girl used to be my best-friend - very gregarious, meet me at the gate when I got home, on my lap in the evenings ('specially when cold!) and all that sort of thing. The boy was always a little more stand-offish, more skitterish and didn't really like to be picked up for a cuddle.
When I first found out I was preggy and I was having a bit of a rough time with the circumstances my girl was a huge emotional support, but since I got past the first tri she's sooooo totally got the pip with me and it's a rare evening where she'll jump on my lap now. However my boy, weeeeelllll, he's become quite clingy, talks to me constantly (and that's getting worse and more annoying) and generally doesn't like to let me out of his sight.
All I can say is I can't work it all out but I guess just like humans react to change in environment/circumstances so do our cats

My cat wasn't so bad, but I use to laugh when he'd try to hop up onto my stomach and baby would kick him.....lol, talk about jump!!!
After not being bothered about me for years, when I became pg with DS1, our male dog would walk behind me with his nose pressed up against my leg (well, it certainly felt like that) and wouldn't let me out of his sight. So sweet and protective. When DS1 came along, he would always sit near him, but far enough away so DS1 couldn't touch him.
Its amazing how animals can tell.

Pop those babies and she will stop... Mine is the same (but not quite as bad) and once I am not pg she goes back to normal... well actually she started "guarding" Jake for about 3 months then she went back to normal.
My boy cat is not smoochy this pregnancy at all.. think he didnt like the end result LOL

Its probably cause your warmer than normal. I had that problem when we had a preggy visitor and the cat made a beeline for her - she didn't even like cats.

The sixth sense in animals never ceases to amaze me we have 5 cats at home (4 boys, one girl) and it is a rare occassion I don't have one either on me or on my stuff. They constantly need to be on my belly and the purring always sets the baby off kicking. I think they're having conversations I don't understand
Ancient Egyptians would worship their cats and scientists have proven that the low frequency of purring is good for your internal organs and stimulates the release of endorphins. Maybe purring is their way of helping baby grow?

Animals are amazing aren't they!
Our 14.5yr old Dalmatian doesn't seem to have changed, he still sleeps, eats & farts all day!
Glad to hear I'm not the only one with animal stalker issues though!

Both my cats and my dog have to be on me all the time since I got pg. I think they must know. It's kinda cute, but sometimes annoying when I just want some space!!!
One of the cats always sits on my belly and he's had his fair share of kicks too - its so funny!

I have the same situation with my two boys. I always have at least one cat with me now when I am at home, they were clingy before but now it is much more. One is sleeping on my feet right now. and they follow me everywhere

We have 3 kitties, 1 has always been very smoochy and loving. The only girl is a total madam and isn't very clingy, until I became pregnant. She now often sleeps jammed up against me, or on my knee with her head on the bump. The smoochy boy is still the same although he's upped his talking too!
I did read somewhere that it's possible cats can hear the baby's heartbeat. And I guess they would be able to tell the difference between the baby's heartbeat and DH's tummy when he's eaten too much!

When I was pregnant with Caitlyn, I lived at Bethany home and every time a girl went into labor , the night before the cat there, would hang around that girl like a bad smell
Needless to say , there was lots of "oh ! Stan is by me ! " in the hopes that that girls baby would be the next to arrive ....

before I found out I was pregnant with DD my cat would sleep right next to my tummy - I thought it was weird but then I heard that it is their protectivenss streak coming through. Though she didn't do it with DS - she hated me!!

Funny... sounds so much like my cat, she ALWAYS has to be sitting on me! The strange this is we've got 2 female cats, one won't leave me alone, the other can't be bothered with me at all!
They're funny creatures aren't they

this is funny. Until I saw this thread I hadn't met anybody else who'd commented on this. My cat cannot, will not, leave me alone. I'm about to go away for five days and I'm not sure how he's going to cope ;-)
He has always slept in our bed, but he used to prefer my partner bx I think he's warmer - now he sticks right by me, and his favourite position is kind've draped over my head. He can't get close enough. which is kinda nice but a bit of a PIA at time.s
Good to hear I'm not the only one that's had this!
Can't tell you how he'll react to the baby until after September though... ;-)

Ahhh!! I cant believe I found this thread! Haha for about 7weeks now my cat has been sooo clingy, she HAS to sleep by me at night time & constantly follows me around the house.
I mentioned this to my Dr (not because I was concerned, just because I wondered if he knew why) & he said that she'll be reacting to the chemical changes of my body during pregnancy. It's kinda cool
I know the cat hates babies though so I'm sure after my bubba is born that she might not be so friendly!

Haha that's pretty funny, I'm only noticing our 2 girlie cats seem to take turns at sitting with me, I thought it was cuz I am in early stages (7 weeks) and lying down more cuz feeling the MS, but maybe not, maybe they can sense it.... be interesting to see over the next few months! Tehy are both very playful so if later on baby kicks them thru belly that could start a play war!

Oh good its not just me! One of my cats always sits on me and the other tabby one one wont even come on my couch.... until a few weeks ago, now I cant sit down without her draped accross me, im sure they fight to see who gets to sit on me. Im struggling to type at the mo as I cant see over her as shes pressed right under my chin with her legs round my neck, its completely not like her to be like this with me, she always loved DH but now I am #1. Think DH is a bit hurt lol.

Amusing thread...I'm having the same problem. My boy cat aged 5 has always thought of me as his mummy but it's got worse with this pg. He constantly sits on my belly which is huge and he weighs 9kgs and every time he sits on me bubs gives him a huge kick and Nemo just purrs louder. He follows me everywhere and sleeps in between my legs. I've been getting those agonizing leg cramps for the last 4 weeks at night and if I get one when he's in between my legs, I can't reach my toes to pull them back towards my body. My hubby has to then extricate all 9kg of cat from my legs, whilst I'm squealing about the pain
He is currently sitting in my chair waiting for me to sit down but as I'm at the computer he has to make do with my chair. He also wakes me with licking my face which I think is gross, it also makes me wheeze but to him he just loves me and wants to kiss me. It doesn't matter to him that I've already been up 5 times to pee and I've only just got back to sleep He just wants to show his love.
Cats are funny creatures there's no denying it, but we love them just the same.

A 9kg cat! Crikey!! . No wonder baby kicks!
My kitty is 3kg, but she's underweight and going to the vet this week for treament for overactive thyroid. She'll be at the vet for a week, I'll miss her sleeping on my tummy, looking forward to her coming home already

Yep, he's a maine coon and they're known for their size. He's also about a meter in length
I don't know if bubs kicks cos of the weight (although I would if I was him) or just for some extra contact with the outside world. He's a very communicative baby. I pretty much get about 40 kicks a day, not the 10 we're supposed to count.

When I was preg my cat would sleep on my lap or next to me any chance she could. If she was sleeping on my lap her head would be pressed right up against my tummy. She loved it.
So you're not the only ones lol
