Hi there! I'm wondering if any Dunedin mums can recommend a good midwife. My son was born in Hastings and I LOVED my midwife there, but short of moving back there, I'm out of luck with her this time round.
I'm keen on having a hospital birth and on breastfeeding baby. Thanks in advance for your advice
Also, just as a side note, how is the set-up at the hospital here - are there individual rooms or are they shared etc? Just curious.

Hi nashi. I'm having Prue Thomson again, I thought she was great last time and really clicked with our personalities .
There are both shared (4 per room) and single rooms in the postnatal part, they do space you out if there aren't many mums, so you may have a 4 person room to yourself. I managed to get a single room for 6 out of the 7 nights I had to stay.
Good luck in your search!

Heather LaDell is amazing and her back-up Arienme Mulqueen is lovely. when we try for 2nd we will be asking her again.
btw we have a weekly coffee group. details in mums meet up if any Dunedin ladies are interested
ETA: they have both single and shared rooms. From what i gathered when I was there... they keep single rooms for C-Sections (as i was) but if there are single rooms available, they use them up first... then if a CS gets done, i think they put the least likely to have problems into a shared room iygwim. but they are really good and even put one in each shared room before they put you in with other mums to give you the best time you can (without 4 fresh babies in the same room) i hope that makes sense... I was told before i went into the single room that if there was an emergency CS that i might have to go into a shared room because an emergency one is more traumatic or something, so they warn you if you might need to move. and they dont put you in a shared room just because you had a VB... if there is a single they will more than likely offer you a single. but they are really lovely there i hope all that made sense lol

I'm another Prue Thompson fan! She is good value
A bit gutted that I can't have her next time as we have moved.
