Oops, I meant to type Midwife!
I'm expecting my second child in December and have a question about midwives..... With our first, we went with a group of 6 midwives, three of which cycled through from the time I went into labour to the time I delivered. I really didn't like their approach and the feeling that I was just a # so I'm looking to use a different midwife this time.
My problem is, the midwife I've met with comes with warnings from other midwife friends/friends of friends I've mentioned his name to, but highly recommended by a girl in my coffee group. I've met him and he seems pretty good (a pom with a pretty dry sense of humour, but experienced nonetheless.....). Is there any public forum or website that has midwife reviews posted on it? Thanks in advance for your help!

If a midwife had warnings I personally would meet with a few others JIC. Although if you guys 'click' and he seems to know his stuff etc I probably wouldn't mind, but one person saying he's great and a whole bunch of others giving warnings would probably make me look else where tbh.

When I picked my mw, the doctor was a locum so couldn't help me and none of my friends had babies so I was on my own. I rung about 10 before my one said yes! Anyway it wasn't until after she said yes and I joined here that I found out how highly recommended she was etc and she was absolutely fabulous!

I guess what I am trying to say is, if some people have given you warnings maybe ask around about other mw's.

I can see why you'd want to change but I'd be cautious with #2. It depends on *why* people have made comments - are they more personality related or skill related? If a MW (or any health professional) expresses concerns about a colleague, I would usually listen, so long as it was about clinical skills rather than something personality related.

I agree with Flissty's comments. Is it that they didn't get on or were they not happy with his clinical skills? I'd ask a few more questions. Also, is the person part of a practice of MW's or does he work independently?

If you happen to live in Canty, I think I know who you are talking about and my SIL thought he was absolutely wonderful

Hi ladies, thanks for the advice. I definitely need to do a little digging before #2 is born in December.
Flake, I live in Auckland so it must be a different m/w
The initials of the m/w is question are SB.

He was my back up and is awesome!!!

They were pretty busy when I had my wee man so didnt get all the aftercare that I would have liked. Got all the visits, but felt like they were a wee bit rushed. SB was my backup and I always felt totally comfortable with him. He also delivered my friends baby not so long ago and she also thought he was great.

OK, I'm definitely feeling a little more reassured now! Not sure what the issue the 2 midwives I spoke to had, but it seems the pros far outweigh the cons!
