Just when we get our loan consolidated and think everything is a little easier...our washing machine goes on the blink so we need a new one because it sounds like it won't be worth fixing it.

Now my car is doing this funky thing where I'm driving along and the engine just cuts out and stops. I can start it up again fine but ARGHHHHHH!!! So off to the mechanic I go tomorrow.

It all happens at once!

That's always the way for us. The one thing we have found wonderful though is, we RENT our washing machine - $6 a week for one of the newer models, some people ask why we don't just buy one, well, since you do soooooo much washing with young kids, why buy our own and wear it out.. at least this way, if something goes wrong with it we ring em up and a new one is on our doorstep by the end of the day.. maybe that would be a less costly idea for in the meantime so that you can spend that money on your poor car.

It never rains, just pours.
Hope your day gets better

That sounds really odd with your car. When you find out what might be wrong with it make sure you get a few opinions. Mechanics can vary in price so much and I use quotes I get from places against each other to get the best deal

Bugger Paws! I so know the feeling tho - when Maya was a few months old my washing machine exploded, the dryer died, the fridge died and my car failed it's warrant on about 10 different things all in one week. I think that's when I first found OHbaby! - at least my computer was still going!

Hope the car isn't too $$$ and the washing machine thing gets sorted!

Luckily with the car I use a friends mechanic who has already saved us a small fortune compared to other mechanics...ie....B's car needed minor work done and Honda quoted him just over $200...final bill through this mechanic...$50! So at least I trust him and if it is pricey I know he won't be ripping me off.

Renting a washing machine...might not be a bad idea in the short term at least....hmmmmm

oh no, that's just the way isnt it!!!

We rent our washing machine too - we used to own one and it kept breaking and then we just went to DTR and got one from them on rental. THey delivered it and if anything goes wrong they just come and take it away and put a brand new one down in it's place... it has worked well for us. Plus we get a new one every 18 months or so.... I think pay $30 incl per month for ours...

ouch. Doesnt that work out really expensive in the long run?

With washing machines and any appliance really even if you dont buy an extended warrenty you can still approach the manufacturer for help as under the consumer gurantees act you would expect a washing machine to last at least five years.

Unfortunately our washing machine is from B's parents and is over 5 years so no luck there. Might look into the renting thing.

Ok just looked at the renting thing and to be honest I think for us buying will be the better option in the long run. *sigh* I'm sure we'll find a way to work it out! *positive thoughts*

Or.....
Just a thought, but have you considered that maybe this is the universe's way of telling you to upgrade your washing machine?
My SIL just got a new one, it is 5.5kg and wow! She can do two loads worth at once - really cuts down on her chore time (i am really quite jelous - have considered kickign my poxy 3kg machine but I know dh will jsut get the rental company to drop another one off LOL!) - If you are doing to do the cloth nappy thing (which I think you were from memory) maybe you could decide to see it as an opportunity to get something a litle bigger and better, since you will be doing heaps of washign and all...
Ofcourse budget is a consideration...but maybe just another way to look at it...?

Fisher and Pykal were testing an 8kg dryer as well, not sure what happened with it, but it was huge, and means that with a bigger machine you can still go straight to dryer!

I like my Bosch front loader, they are a bit more expensive, but you use less water and detergent, and they heat their own water, which I am sure makes a difference in the long run. Only prob is when you have loaded up the washing machine and have started it and then see that you have dropped one sock along the way.

I was amazed at the increased washing load with one child but now that we have two it seems like I am forever doing the washing. Our washing also goes straight from the washing machine to the dryer and then to a basket where they sit for about a week. I don't mind doing the washing as I like to have a choice of clean clothes but the folding it not up there as a priority

I would LOVE to have a dryer as I *hate* going outside to hang our laundry, in fact, I hate doing laundry full stop ! Roland always gets annoyed at having to remind me about it.

I hate folding washing, in fact there is a huge pile on the couch behind me I am trying not to look at.
We do all our washing and drying at night when it flicks over to night rates cos our power bill last month was $500!! Normally its about $200 so I just about died. I reckon it was something dodgy with the oven because someone came to fix it and our daily usage went up but then they came back (cos they hadnt fixed it properly) and all of a sudden the daily usage has gone down again. Plus on a side note I was really really mad because the first guy was useless and unscrewed the wall oven and took it out completely which is not how you are suppose to service it but he didnt put the screws back in so basically it was just sitting in the hole! A huge big double oven that could have fallen out and squashed my baby!!! I was not happy at all.
