Hi All,
After about 3 years of trying with PCOS my wife and I just found out that were pregnant with twins!!
Even though we're over the moon about having twins, I have these fears of having preterm labour! Ive been reading so much online about experiences from other mothers of twins having preterm labour. I would love to hear stories of successful full-term pregnancies with twins?
Please share yours...

Hey Congrats
I have twins who are now 2.5 years, I didn't go to term but had them at 35wks they were great sizes with Noah being 6lb and Lola 5.5lb they went in to special care for 10 days which was mainly to get their feeding sorted as they couldnt suck properly.
I had a pretty stright forward pregancy I did develop pre-eclempsia and was in hospital for 4 days before I had them and was haivng hourly blood tests to see if they had to come out, but thankfully I went into labour naturally and had them 3 hours later with a really smooth drug free birth.
You may also like to check out the other thread on twins as you will find lots of lovely ladies over there who can help you with twin questions.

Heya, my friend had twins recently at 39 weeks gestation. Non identical girls, one 6lb the other 7lb. Her pregnancy was absolutely fine, altho she was totally over it at the end and did have difficulty moving around, especially as she had a 2 year old already!
All the very best to you.

My nana is a twin - she is 85, the youngest of 5 - her and her brother were born at term 8lb each - one was out before the doctor even got there - and no one even knew there was another to come until out she came!
Good luck with a healthy pregnancy!

Hmmm one of the ladies in the April 2010 thread had twins, in fact I think they went overdue and were both very good weights, 2.9kg and 3.2 ish I think (don't quote me I'm too lazy to go back and look )

I wasn't full term either, but I was a successful pre-term birth!! The girls were born at 33w4d and were in neonatal for 4 weeks, but only to get their feeding sorted and grow a little bit - they never needed breathing assistance or anything like that. And they were good sizes - 5lb1 and 4lb12. Another lady in my September thread had her girls at 37ish weeks by elective c-s (that's classed as full term for twins). A friend of mine had identical twins a couple of years ago and they arrived at 38 weeks as well Join the twins/triplets thread....there are a few of us in there who can answer any questions.
Oh, and last but not least, congratulations!!! Twins are the best

I made it to 35w4d and had a c/section. We were on weekly monitoring as Aoife had reduced fluid and was measuring 'small for dates'. She was 3lbs1oz (1.64kgs) and Eimear was 5lbs (2.25kgs) when born.
Aoife needed no assistance breathing while Eimear was on CPAP For 3 days. We spent 10days in NICU getting body temperature and feeding sorted. (Silver lining to NICU is that babies come out with a set feeding/sleeping routine )
I successfully BF for 7 months.
My sister made it to 38 weeks with her twins. She had a c/section also as Twin 1 was breech.
My mum also had twins for her 4th pregnancy and she was induced at 38 weeks.
Other than Aoifes growth issues, I had a great pregnancy. My only complaints were tiredness and discomfort when sleeping!

thank you all for the replies. i think i've been googling too much on preterm so its all im thinking about at the moment. i also knew a few twin pregnancies in our family that went to full term. So I should just stop worrying and keep calm until the time arrives. Just be aware at the back of my mind of symptoms of labour etc and who to call. We just go referred to an OB at auckland so were happy were getting great care! :)

I have twin brothers and I think Mum got induced at about 37/38 weeks. Luckily as they were 6lb13 and 8lb10!

Preterm isn't something to be scared about, it is someting to find out as much about as you can. Talk to your obs and midwife about the routine testing that can be done, and what would happen i the babies did want to come early.
Have a tour of your NICU, find out about the support that is there, and how it all works. Talk to others in the Multiple Birth Club that have been there and done that. It is not so much the birth that is harder, it is the NICU time and the issues that come with that.
I had my DS at 30 weeks, and the NICU rollercoaster lasted 7 weeks. If you would like to talk it through at all with me, pm me. I met my best friend in NICU with her twins, a lasting friendship that came from that hard time.

A friend had full-term baby boys in Sept last year i think she was between 38 & 39 weeks.
One baby was 6lb (ish) and the other was nearly 10lb.

Heya, just so you know, all of my babies have been preterm and mine were just singletons! 37wks, 36wks, 35wks and then wee Harlow was born at 24weeks. NICU can seem like a scary place if you haven't been there before, but the staff are wonderful and they are very supportive. All the best with your twins

Rest is the best advice I can give to your wife. I thought I would be able to work up to 36 weeks but I was strongly advised to stop work at 28 weeks.
From there we were on a week by week basis and babies didn't arrive until 35weeks.

Tishy,
Did you go on complete bedrest? Or rest few hours a day. Found some other advise online:
- keep hydrated
- dont stress!
- gain enough weight by week 20

Just took it easy. I found a midday nap a necessity
Also sometimes just believing that you can do it is half the battle.

I agree with finishing work at 28 weeks...I did, and the relief was overwhelming. I was finding it difficult to move by then, though, and so was in a lot of pain just walking from the street to my desk. I sat down a lot, with my feet up (helps relieve swelling) and just relaxed.
