Sorry- I am so frustrated!
I have tried:
Bum Genius
My Baby- (fake bum genius but cheap)
Real Nappies
Pea Pods
and now Fuzzi Bunz
None fit.
We have put up with Fuzzi bunz now for months... but theyre all sligtly different, some more gapey than others... They all leak around the leg.
Locks is long and lean, and wets well.
I have no money left. we are stone broke.
I have tried so damn hard to make this work.
grrrrrrr
Thanks for listening to me vent.
sorry aswell.

Have you tried adding a hemp insert to your fuzzi's? I had leak probs with the micros alone so added the hemp and they're much better now...

How frustrating! How heavy is your boy? I have a long thin DD and have found ittis great. Most others i've tried on her have leaked. I could flick you a spare (used) medium itti for $15 + $2.50 postage if you want? If it doesn't work, you can send it back to me, so it would only cost you the postage to try it.
Where are you based? Can you try borrowing a few off friends to try? If you found a better choice you could flick yours on TM to fund new ones.

It leaks out the leg- because it gapes. A good few fingers worth of gape. So the leaking is more to 'lack of containment' IYKWIM. his clothes absorb from the gape.
We use 2x microfiber inserts one long and a thicker booster.
He is prob 11kg now maybe... 10kg about 2 months ago.
T Rex- maybe thats a good idea... Il PM you.
We are in Tropical Dunedin.

Is it a wet leak you are talking about or a pooh leak?

both unfortunately... not always poo though- depends on the 'consistency' and 'activity' that follows

Were they second hand the ones you got? Maybe they need stripping?
Maybe a multi fit one that you snap the legs hole smaller than the waist ?
Sell a couple of the ones you don't like, then use that money to purchase something else.

you will be better off getting a fitted with covers to contain leaks if it is because of gaping and using a cover with velcro. or even a pull up one. if they are gaping that much maybe you are using the wrong size?
what was wrong with the real nappies, they shouldnt have gaped... did you boost the prefolds? i have some bosters i can send you if you want. you can either lay them inside the nappy next to the skin or between the cover and the prefold.
maybe you need to change him through the night if he pees lots?

Have you tried your prefolds with a snappi? I find it works much better then just placing the nappy in the cover. If you google "nappy folding" you will find different ways to fold your prefods so you ca work out what workes best for your baby. I also find bummis super brite covers much better then real nappies cover or any other covers I've tried. They have dubble gussets around the legs and are easier to get a tight fit with no gaping.

Do you have access to a sewing machine?
I have a similar problem. My DD is 13months and only weighs 7kg. I use homemade pockets which have nice tight elastic around the thigh. Works a treat, and they are SO cheap to make!
ETA: I find with her night nappy (ecobubs wool pockets) that even though there are at least 3-4fingers gap around the thigh that they don't leak - not sure why. We haven't tried too many other brands, but have had heaps of leaks with Itti Bittis (but I think that the mediums are still a bit big on her

Hi Kitkat,
I have used nap naps on my son, who is the same age as yours since he was 4 weeks old. (I just kinda lurk in the may babies!)
We have never had any trouble with them and they are one size fits all, so you should be able to adjust them to fit L's legs.
The nappy needs a cover, and these come in three different sizes. We don't have any leakage problems and I think it helps having the two layers. We use the merino covers and just air them between wearing. Only wash if we have a poo leakage.
Just checked out trade me and there are some second hand ones listed cheaply. (4 for $10) and others if you would like to try them out. I have some spare covers that I can send to you for nothing if you want them. (we don't use them as we use the merino ones.)
check out natural parenting for more info.
hope this helps.

Wow... lots of questions- here goes:
Real nappies (theyre 'prefolds' ey?) gave L bum rash. really bad. I know it was the material-because as soon as we changed, it went. Plus they leaked up top at the back, even though the inner was folded right etc- I went and got the shop to confirm. I know they work well for others- just didnt for L) We always use ecostore to wash with too.
We used a snappi too....
This has put me off other similar systems.
Ive stripped the inners too... so it aint that- they just dont fit round the leg.
I am a useless sewer.... so I wont go there with making my own Theyd fall apart first wash!!
We use a disposable at night- Natures choice- theyre made of corn so I feel a bit better about it. They are awesome- no leaks ever (well only in extreme cases)
The idea of waking him in the night for a change is not an option in my opinion (sorry not meant to sound rude ) Im still catching up from when he was born.
Nap naps- I did consider this in the beginning- maybe Ill give them a go now....
You guys are awesome help- thankyou so much for all this.
I know there must be one that works... I am exhausted on top of it all, so thankyou so so much.

the prefolds from real nappies probably wouldnt have given him nappy rash, it would probaby have been more to do with the fact they dont have a stay dry liner and without boosting wouldnt have been absorbent enough and the wee would have been too close to his skin for too long. Prefolds do make excellent stuffers for pocket nappies though.
if you want a really good fitted nappy for night time then the bitti boo is fabulous and also designer bums do a hemp nappy. napnaps have a night nappy but i havent used them.

Real nappies gave my DD nappy rash until I started using a stay dry liner with them.
GL with finding something that works for you.

Kat, come round and have a look at Cam's varied selection of nappies and see if there are any you'd like to borrow and try out, before you buy any more.

I have a baby cheeks you could borrow to try. They have adjustable leg elastics. My newborn is in them and my 23months old is too. At least you can adjust the leg size accordingly. I'm in Mosgiel by the way

Thanks noisybaby...
Ill go with what I have at the mo....
Heres where Im at:
Napnaps- 1 is on its way to me now- so hoping thatll be awesome... we'll see.
TotsBots- WHitewave- the one you lent us... I cant find it on their website- maybe they dont make them anymore? It looks closest to a flexitot?? And combined with a Bummis superbrite cover- Awesome fit,..... though I wonder what would happen with poos- Youre lucky (we all are) that didnt happen in the trial run!!!
The bummis double gusset cover is AWESOME. I cant find any on TM though. So we will keep trying.
IttiBitti- TRex- Thanks heeeaps... got it today- he is in it now. Its actually surprisingly small (or Locks is surprisingly large!). I thought- surely he isnt a large? but perhaps he is. What a lovely nappy! It also fits rather well.
Ill post my conclusion soon- if there is one! Seems that mix n matching might work. I am feeling a lean toward fitted naps though... at this stage.
You all rock!

Kat, an itti bitti is a trimmer fit than most nappies
If they are fitting around the legs then all good
My boy should really be in a small cause his legs are so skinny but I have him in a med. Legs gap a little but they hold all his liquid poos so I'm happy.

Ah... thirsties ey... another one to try! lol... good to know.
IttiBitti- He was grizzling, I checked his nappy- it was pretty much off his bum. so yep- too small. Doesnt ride high enough even though the legs were good.
So- wait and see how the next one goes I guess.

How tall is he & what's his weight?
Cooper is in a med itti, he's 82cm & 9.4kg. The small fits really well, but is rather close to his bum crack med's a great fit all over in an AIO, legs can gape.
My CC is 81cm & over 13kg, med's are small on her & larges are a great fit.
Just for comparison sake
Good luck in your quest, love Thirsties covers here too

You could try Joeleze nappies, DD has had chunky legs since she was little, but its good on her even now, I got a medium that takes her up to 12kg I think? She has only ever leaked because she was wet and the insert couldn't take anymore. It has an adjustable rise just by one snap, but the waist can do up nice and tight
If you like I can send you one to trial, we've got some bright orange onex that we don't really use because they are bright orange and not as cute as the other packs lol.

We're the same, it drives me nuts!!!! My baby isn't even skinny at all, I think he looks like he's got reasonably chubby thighs so I don't get it. BUT tonight I thought I was an absolute genius when I put a cover over the top and no more gaps. I got so excited. Only thought of it 30 mins before his bath though so will try properly tomorrow. Sadly I've only got one cover, so if it works I might need a few more.
So yeah, if you've got any covers give those a go. I had a small bummis one and it fitted nicely over my itti bitti. Also I got a pop-in for nights the other week and it fits really nicely around his legs. So if you want to try another one that would be a goodie.

So..
Nap naps were a total fail for us. Worst leaks yet... so we wont go there. Thanks for all the help though... I guess Im proof that some work for some, and not others.
I have just bought a cheap (ish) ittibitti from TM in large so Ill see if thats better.
I Still come back to the fuzzi's and think- if only they fitted round the leg theyd be perfect. grrr
