Ava, who is 21 months old, has a HUGE rock hard belly. DP would mention it off and on, but it wasn't until Plunket said "oh i dont think she has an enlarged liver" that I thought there may be something wrong. She has a healthy appetite and weighs 11kg (height 80cm) so is not a huge toddler (except for the stomach!). I remember having a bit of a pot belly as a child.

Is it normal????

Is it rock hard all the time? Or only after eating?

I have read that wheat can make the stomach bloated & distended? Talk to your GP maybe?

Dan has a BIG belly but is pretty small everywhere else. His tummy is only rock hard after eating though. If it's always rock hard, then I'd check with the GP, but if it's just a podgy pot belly, I wouldn't worry.

Wheat makes DHs tummy bloated.

Eimears tummy gets rock hard if she has too much wheat too so we limit her intake.

Personally I would get it checked out by the GP if you are in any way concerned about it.

I asked my GP and she just asked if anyone in the family had celiac disease but no-one does...

Celiac & wheat intolerance are quite different.

My wee girl (16 mths) is tall and athletic, except for her tummy which looks like a little 'beer belly'.  I was worried because it looked out of proportion, but in our case Plunket said it was OK.  I remember having a pot tummy as a kid.

Could be a build up of gas in the tummy - maybe try a probiotic for a few weeks to see if it makes a difference
