Just wondering how many of you decided to have baby in your room and how many have put baby in their own room from the begining? And why it worked for you?

Same here, Erin was in her bassinette in her own room from the first day home, found it better for us sleep-wise ! Easier to ignore some of the snuffles, sighs and grunts when they're not right next to you.

we had jack in our room til he was sleeping through the night, which was 6wks. i found it easier as i only had to reach over and grab him to feed him
it's a personal choice thing, try it one way, if it's not working, do it the other way

We had Andrew in our room till he went into his cot at 2 months old. He did have to odd period of time when all he wanted to do was cry in the lounge by himself.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I loved having Ella in our room! Those little noises newborns make are soo cute, I miss them! It made sense to have her in our room in a basinette next to our bed, as I was breastfeeding.. so in the night I would reach over (half asleep), feed her, put her back in her bed and fall asleep again (sometimes if I was really tired I would fall asleep with her in our bed, on a pillow between us (it was easier to feed her lying down that way).

It's all personal preference but I couldn't imagine not having her there for the first few months.. she was 5 months when she went to her own room/cot.

We will have Ethan in our room - easier for me to get to him without having to spend too long out of bed hehehe i am lazy.

But we will see what happens because the two rooms are so close together that we may put him in his own room. I agree, it is personal preference and what you are comfortable with.

Our kids went straight into their own rooms. Found them way to noisy to have in our room

we had kobe in his own room from day one but Addison is in with us only because I dont want to have to heat her room aswell, we had $500 power bill last month adn i cant afford that every month so she is in with us but the minute it gets warmer she is heading to her own room. During the day she sleeps in the lounge.

I had Kiya in my room with me for the first 6 months, but that was because I was living at home and we had 6 people in the house! Josiah went straight into his own room.

Xavier will be in our room to begin with, but that is only because the boys will be sharing a room and I hope to have Xav close to sleeping through the night before he moves into the cot in JP's room.

We've Joshua in his own room from day 1, but during the first few weeks I ended up having him in his moses basket down in the lounge with me when he was particularly unsettled - mainly so I could watch the telly while I was trying to settle him.

Zac was in his own room from day one for night sleeps and during the day I had a bassinet downstairs for him.

We had Nerissa in her own room from day one as well - our view was that it was important for her to get used to her own room and that our room was our space and it would be hard to move her out later....BUT in saying that just before she was born I watched a programme which was saying that humans are the only animal that would leave there young alone and away from them when they are so young which did make me have second thoughts but stuck to the own room thing..

xanthe spent one night in our room and then was into her own - i swear she could smell me so would fuss! i found it much easier to sleep without hearing all the misc noises they make.
however, due to a different house with this one, we will have to have her in the room with us for a while i imagine. Our room is at the complete opposite end of the house that the kids rooms are at, and if i were to be traipsing up and down all night i would get knackered pretty quick. plus, i can never be arsed going downstairs as it is, so would hate having to get up for baby. Dh is the one saying baby will be in with us, i was just going to spend the first few weeks in babys room, but i dont think he realises that i will need to turn on the light to change her etc. if that fails she might be in the ensuite!

first born I had in my room - he didn't sleep too wella nd was too convient to pop him in my bed and fall asleep. 2nd went in her own room striaght away. Is the best of sleepers (slept through 6 weeks) and still is a sleeper - at 8 :-). With this one I will definately put 'it' in its own room from day one.

mikey's been in our room and i hate to say it, but he's still there and it really doesn't look like he's going anywhere any time soon. he's just so unsettled!! i almost wish i'd put him in his own room right from the start.

We're going to have Maddie in her own room from the start. I also think it's a good idea for her to get used to her own room and avoid possible problems moving her later on. Also her room is right next to ours so it won't be a major to get up.

Forgot to mention that Erin's room is right next to ours as well, which makes getting up easy enough.

Ollie was in a bassinet in our room until he was 2 weeks old. Hubby & I found it really hard to sleep as we were both constantly listening out for him. We moved him into his cot in his room (which is right next door) and he adjusted fine. Now he is sleeping 8-9 hours and everyone gets a good sleep

Maya was in with me till 5 mths, mainly coz we didn't have a spare room till then.

The twins are going straight into their own room, I'm getting breathing monitors for them, and their room is right next to ours. Party it's a space thing, and partly coz it saves moving them later.

I also figure that if they are prem and in the NICU I have to go away and leave them anyway so they won't be used to being in the room with me. Although the NICU is pretty noisy and busy so that might be tricky for them to get used to the quiet at home.

I'd like to have our girl's room ready for her to go in when we get home, so that I can decide whether to have her in her own room or in ours.  If the room's not ready by then, (has just had the wall and floor linings torn out!) then that decision is already made for me!  It'd be nice to have the option, though, as being a light sleeper, but a first-time mum, I really don't know which room I'd like her in to start with!  I rekon - give yourself the option of being flexible and don't feel bad if whatever you first try doesn't work for you.

Forgt to mention that first born who was in my room till 9 months old did not properly sleep through the night till around 4 years alwasy woke during the night to hop into my bed and it just became a habit and its me to blame not him it was just so easy to let him in and in the end I didn't even feel him get into the bed. My strong advise is definately in the babies own room from the beginning.
