I used to take mine out often (before I took it out permanently about ten years ago) and after about an hour or so it'd need a hard push to get it back in. I still have a slight bump on the inside of my nostril, but thankfully no external scar!

mine has been out for years and with a wee bit of effort i can still get an earing in. lol. i would leave it a couple months before taking it out and maybe take it out for short periods building up and see how long it takes before you have to wiggle it back in so you get an idea of how long it can stay out for cos everyone is different. im sure i had a small lump the whole time i had it in but i dont remember?

Mine still had a little lump there for ages afterwards. No problems with it now.

Mine closed up after 2 days, then again I only left it in for 2 days after getting it done (I sorta hyperventilated when getting it done - have a fear of blood noses so wasn't the smartest idea getting it done!) No lump from me, but there was one until it closed.

No probs taking it out for that amount of time spoecially since its been in a couple of months. I've had both sides done a few times, had a lump with each piercing too.

Mine doesn't close up that quick....I've had to take it out for surgeries and MRI scans (so between 30 mins and 3-4 hours) and never had a problem getting it back in. I've had it for nearly 12 years now though. Oh, and I don't have a lump, but I can't remember whether I did when I had it done.

I had to take my tongue bar out for last c-sect, it was jolly hard to get it back in! My other piercings I just had to have plastic/silicone instead. Taken them all out now, something about them grossed me out with this last lot of m/s. DH took out his labret about month ago, still open. You should be fine to take it out for makeup etc. My one used to pop out when I yawned, usually in the shower, where it disappeared down the drain! Good thing they're not too expensive, =).

Ooh tongue, had that done, it used to close within a couple of hours even though I had it done for ages so would always have to kinda push it through. Swallowed a few of those in my time

Really??? I never had any trouble with putting my tongue stud back through either, I had to take out all my piercings for all of my surgeries....and have had tongue done for nearly 9 years now!

I had my nose pierced for about 6 years, on and off. Always had a lump in there but it was never sore after the initial healing period.
Mine closed up pretty quick, within 48 hours but you should be well fine to take it out and replace it by now.

I only had my tongue for 3 years, i had those silicone bendy bars which are a lot skinnier than the metal ones so that might have had something to do with it. My ears never stay open for long either, & I had the first ones done when I was 5! & yep, I swallowed a couple of balls too. The last one was when I first got preg this time, one of those glow-in-the-dark ones so I got kinda worried about the plastic dissolving in my stomach acid & affecting baby. Can we say "super paranoid"? Lol!

Just thinking- DH can take his tongue bar out indefinitely & hasn't had a problem putting it back in- being high voltage electrician he has to wear the plastic ones too, guess it's just different body chemistry?

About the bump thing - did you guys with the bump on the inside of the nostril get it pierced with the ear piercing gun? Cuz that's what causes it!

I got mine done about 3yrs ago and I also had a lump, for aaaages. It was really annyoing and made it hard to clean and change the bar. But once I changed to a smaller straight bar it went away. Then while drying my face after a shower my stud fell into the carpet never to be seen again and it was a sunday and all the shops were shut and so I just let it close.

The gun was why I hyperventilated because the piercing didn't have the kink in it, so was straight like an earring and couldn't be taken out to bend for a week and I just freaked out!

With the tongue, I could never have it out long, I used both but always swallowed the plastic ones!

Ugh, guns for nose piercings scare me!!! I had mine done with a needle, much less pain than getting my ears done with a gun because the hole is larger than the stud, and the wound can close a little around it.

Mine developed a bump on the outside for a while, but it went away eventually without me doing anything. And now I can leave it out for a couple of days with no worries - I mostly lose my studs in bed!!

Mine was done with a funny nose thing...and it had a tapered stud in it. I have only ever lost one stud....and I've never swallowed a tongue stud ball yet....

mine was done with the gun, my issue was the same as nics, it didn't have the bend in it, and it had a butterfly on the back! drove me mental within an hour so i stuck rat nose pliers up there to get the butterfly off!

Makes me sad that people (not you guys - the people doing it) pierce with guns still!
I've been body piercing for about 5 years (stopped for kiddies) and I'd NEVER pierce anything with a gun. The blade (needle) is the way to go - it slices a path thru the flesh with no friction letting the jewellery sit properly and it helps with healing. The gun forces the earring thru the skin and stretches a hole, thats why it always hurts more when you get it done like that.

If you ended up with a butterfly on the inside of your nose, i'd do the place for negligence. its so bloody dangerous!

when i went in they said gun but suggested needle...the also said that the gun when pierced will not have butterfly in the noise as they dont put one on to start with...so i would be concerned if there was a butterfly on the end...how strange

The place I went asked my friend if she wanted a butterfly.

He also pierced them with earrings and then took that out to put a nose stud in (without the bend).

He also didn't ask for ID, but from what I understand he got in trouble so had to 'clean up' a bit iygwim.

I had a lump for awhile, can't remember how long though.

I took mine out MONTHS ago and the hole is still open. I jam a earring in there every now and then but I lost all my proper nose studs.

First time I had my nose done I went to chemist (cos friend's mum said it'd be safer) & chemist used gun. Second time I went to tattoo studio who used a needle. Neither asked me for id & I was only 14 at the time. Needle healed much faster. My other piercings were done with needles, & they hurt enough, would hate to imagine them using a gun!

sorry to threadjack...

but does tongue piercing hurt?

Posted By: High9
Date Posted: 21 June 2010 at 4:49pm
Umm well they can't numb it, we (my friend and I) had 10 lemonade ice blocks before hand to 'numb' it, so no didn't hurt but what did hurt was when it swelled and learning to eat again with a fork and not get it caught on the piercing and also not chew it !

I had my nose done with a gun. The only piercing that I've had that brought tears to my eyes (and I've had 12 all up. 7 still in use)

All I got was a normal stud earring. It was a pain in the butt because it didnt have a bend in it. The day after, my mum came in to wake me up, said "what, did you pierce you're nose or something?" and jabbed the plaster I had on it to protect it. Pushed the stud part way into my septum and it bled something horrible.

2 days after I had it pierced I went out and bought a little nose stud with a ball on the end. Less than a week after I had the piercing done I changed them over. Was much more secure after that. Only problem was the skin grew over the little ball bit and it was a real cow to change the stud 6 months later.

Now I have a bent bar. Much more secure.

I've had ears done twice, to seperate holes in each lower lobe, nose, tongue, belly button...

Really it wasnt that bad. The worst part was when my boss at the time came up to me and told me to take it out, after I had okayed it with her. She's a cow anyway.

FYI: If you go for a piercing and the person asks you if you want it numbed with cream first - PLEASE turn around and walk out of the place straight away! Numbing causes the skin to contract and can leave you with a nasty scar/reactions/infections while your body is trying to heal.
Piercings only hurt for the amount of time it takes for them to push the blade thru (I had a LOT of them). Inserting the jewellery shouldnt hurt as the area around the incision is in shock from the cut.
Getting my ears pierced hurt more than the 3 bars in my tongue ;)

OMG my tongue was.....I passed out He had put the needle through, and the bar was through, but he didn't manage to get the ball on before I fainted LOL I have always said I would rather get my entire body tattooed from head to toe (I already have 5, so know what they're like) then get it done again. My ears were done at a beauty salon place when I was 13, and my tongue and nose were done at a tattoo parlour...same place that did my first 4 tattoos.

I started to panic with the tongue when he got the clamp out to hold my tongue! But it wasn't as bad as I thought!

My mums reaction was sooooooo funny, my friend goes "We got our tongues pierced" My mum brakes on the motor way and goes "WHAT! OPEN YOUR MOUTH NICOLE!" Looks in and goes "OMG... You HAVE!" then drives... Stops again on the motor way and goes "It's not real is it...?" I go "No we're just kidding!" and she drives again then stops and goes "It is, isn't it?" and I go "Yes" and this went on until we got home... Luckily it was 10pm and no cars re her stopping!

I'm keen for a tattoo next...

I didn't find my nose hurt for very long. The cuff? on my ear hurt more because I kept sleeping on it. The tongue I found more overwhelming than painful, having pain in your head & having to keep your tongue poking out. I had a vch done at the same time as my tongue & the tongue hurt more at the time but healed much quicker. I have two little tattoos, didn't hurt much, want more but haven't found a good artist yet. Curious minik8e- did you get yours done by Steve at skin design?

I have my nose pierced, I've had it for years - since I was 16, so 9 years. It did hurt when it was done, but only for a minute, it wasn't too bad to be honest. I just buy the straight cheap nose studs and bend them in half at a right angle, then put that in my nose. I've had the same one for years now, it just always stays in there - put makeup on and clean around it. Though I have taken it out a few times for curious children lol, it doesn't hurt one bit
