Just wondering...when I see cake pictures for 1st birthdays and they have a little cake next to the main cake...is that for the baby to get their hands dirty with?

Might be the one that the candle sits on? I didnt think of having an extra cake just for DD, she just had a chunk of the big cake lol

We just had one cake as well. And Cody helped himself to the icing while we were singing happy birthday.

Might be for a child who has allergies? We have a child in the family with allergies so depending on the cake there will be a little one for him that's disguised as part of the main cake.

I had a little cake decorated like a present next to the big cake and it was really just there for the candle and mostly because I had a spare bit of cake and wanted to decorate it LOL! I let DD get into the big cake.

I would think it is a personal cake just for bubs or even just a smash cake for all the great photos you can get from it.

I don't think it's that common in NZ, but have seen quite a few pics from the States, and I think that the little cake is usually a "smash" cake.

I did a lady bug cake for Gabz 1st bday and a small cupcake with a candle so we could blow it out together - and then she had the cupcake :-)

Its quite common in the US .. they are for the baby to smoosh up and it leaves the big cake in tact for the grown ups to devour.

Thanks guys, well that makes sense. I think us kiwi's don't mind our babies getting into it, after-all it is their cake. Think I'll just make one cake and see how my baby deals with it...she can go for it if she wants, we will just have to eat the rest. Fun times!
