Dont know what kind of reaction I'll get out of you all with this...but guess what we did friday???got Brookes ears peirced.......I went over with a friend who was getting her 9mth old girls ears peirced and she wanted me to get Brookes done too.but the thought just freaked me out totally.my husband wasnt worried either way.I just always thought Id let her get them done when she was 5.And also thought that women that got babies ears peirced were just doing it for there own enjoyment and it was just mean....so insisted to my friend there was no way Id be getting Brookes done.Anyway we were in farmers before appt and waiting for lift to 2nd floor and there was a lady infront with 4yr old who had ears peirced and I asked her how old they had it done?5mths old was the answer....she said way better age to do it cause they dont fiddle with them and get infected...anyway I still wasnt convinced. So went with my friend and taylor louise had hers done.bout 20 seconds of crying then forgot bout it and the ladies at the shop said that they never get under one year olds back with infections its usually 1-5yrs that do.apparently 5yr olds the worst cause they play with them so much...anyway taylor louise looked so cute and was so good bout them that I ended up getting brooke done.....mean mum eh???she did a 10second cry and then over it.....I felt guilty all day though....felt like I had changed her and she was perfect befor anyway but they havent bothered her at all and they look so darn cute.....so what do you all think????????????

Hehe, cute. I'm personally not a great fan of earrings on babies, but each to his own - my Mum thought Maya was too young when we had hers done at 3.

But I bet Brooke looks cute!

I'm not a big fan of earrings on babies either but you're the mummy and I am sure she looks sweet.

Now that Erin is actually here I'm not too sure how I feel about the whole ear piercing thing, although I am reasonably sure we won't be getting it done too early. If you're OK with it and she's OK with it though, that's great - and I'm sure she looks gorgeous with them in !

I wouldn't get my babies ears done. I got my daughters (called Brooke) at 5 years but it was Brooke who said she wanted them done and I explained it would hurt and all the dangers of playing with them etc.... I think it was much better cause I could explain it to her and she could still have the choice. She never got infections and let me put the stuff on each day. In fact the chemist here will not do them before 5 years.

Personallt I think it is totally for the mother and another thing to 'dress them up with' A baby can not make the decision for themselves.

As everyone has said you are the mummmy and its your decision in the end.

man i thought I wouldnt let my daughter get them till she is about 12 or 13. I like in that ad on tv where she counts down the day till she is allowed to get her ears peirced. I figure its something for her to look forward to but at the same time if all her friends had thiers done before then and she was feeling left out I wouldnt make her wait. For me its just a 'now you are a becoming a young woman' type thing. Not saying I think its horrible you got them done though.

Honestly I really didnt think I would get them done and am still surprised that I did it but does look really cute and have had so many people already say that it looks gorgeous.they really not bothering her at all.Yep and fair enough annc for what you said bout being more for the mum.as I said in my first msg I also always thought that.anyway Im very much into fashion and trying to look good (as good as I can anyway) everyday.(straighten my hair and do makeup everyday etc).Im a real girly girl and Im kinda guessing Brooke may follow in my steps anyway.....but then if she wants to be a tomboy thats fine too But yeah done now....will work on the phot thing.will take one of her when she wakes up and put it on tonight

I think Zaara (Roksana's little one) had her ears pierced very early (as a cultural thing) and she looks so sweet with them!

Han is getting hers done on her 10th birthday (providing she has bought into the ear piercing hype like every other young girl) partly because it's a bit of a family tradition, and partly because otherwise she'll be asking for a damn cell phone. $10 ear piercing for a bday pressie carries far more weight than the price suggests! (And saves me $200 or so if I had to buy her a cell phone. Which I probably wouldn't. Except maybe to stop whinging.)

we are thinking we will get xanthes ears pierced this birthday for her - she will be three, for the reasons above, they dont play with them so much etc. But then i was four when i got mine done, so early is what happens in our family.

both me and my sister had ours done at four, and i was thinking about that age if my girls want them done.
i have several friends with daughers that got theirs peirced at around 4 too.... it comes down to choice and its neat that we are all different and can have our own choice.

i dont have a problem either way....

Maya asked for hers and thats why we had it done at 3 (theres a thread under Toddler Times way back about it when I had it done). but I apparently had mine done at 3 and they got mega infected coz I wouldn't let Mum clean them, so that's why Mum was anti. I was secretly a bit smug when Maya's healed so nicely...

We planned to get Paris's done at age three but went for a holiday at easter and ended up getting them done up in Hamilton.   For a while there i wished i hadn't had them done cos they WERE fine, then started going a bit icky, but have since healed up with alot of help and perserverence from mum. I would love to be able to buy new ones for her so she could have a different colour but at the moment she won't let me do anything other than clean them, so trying to take them out and put new ones in, would be a horror i imagine. I think i would rather go younger, or much older.. 3 is not really so good, well not in my case.. cos they are old enough to be explained to but young enough not to listen and to still get all spazy if they get infected and you try to clean em!

They told me at silver surfers that the best thing to do if they start getting a bit red or infected is to put tea tree on them 2-3 times a day....so far we have no probs...what did you use on paris?

I got mine done when I was 10, as a Christmas present. I think I remember one got infected but the other didn't, although eventually it healed and I got to change them for some prettier ones (had started out with just silver studs I think).

we use tee-tree oil on them 2 times a day if they are red, but usually once a day or once every 2 days if they are all good.

I think they look very nice. Real cute! To be honest, I would probably do the same. I was mad keen to get my neices done from about 6 months, but my bro wouldn't let me. I really wanted to get them done, so i could buy her diamond studs for her 1st birthday (screw backs, so she wouldn't lose them)... terribly indulgent, i know, but I work at Michael Hill, and I get a fanastic discount... Anyhow, her other aunty sneaked her to get them done without my bro knowing, and they were fuming! She was about 2 or so, and they have had lots of problems with them, cos she won't let anyone clean them or change them. She is nearly 5 now, and they wish hshe had had them done when she was little... (long winded blather, that post was...)

I think we will wait until Charlotte is about 14- just because kids are so active and the thought of another toddler ripping at them scares me to bits! I figure kids usually calm down a bit at around 14ish- they stop playing tag in the playground etc and then its also her choice and lets her get excited about it and makes it a treat.

I have also found over here that its a real cultural thing- only the gypsies/travellers tend to have them.

But like everyone else has said, its up to the parents- if you love them and you're ok with it thats what matters!

How sweet
I was 3 when I got mine done, it took over an hour to get them done apparently i hated it, but at 10 i went ahead and put holes gallore in my ears.
Im not sure as to when I want to do HAleighs I might wait till her 5th birthday that way her ears wouldve grown alittle more and they wont look as funny later on. but I have friends who got their kids ears done when they were 1 i dont think i could hold haleigh long enough
