Hello,
little Hiawatha is slowly but surely growing out of her capsule, another 1-2 months I'd say. I've been eying up the Radian XTSL BUT we own a Subaru Legacy Wagon 98 and I believe it won't fit! In fact, will any long-term RF seats fit?? I've been in email contact with the NZ distributor of the seats but they haven't fitted one in a legacy before, so he's doing his best to find one and try but he did suggest fitting it on the middle seat, sticking out between the front seats which in my honest opinion sounds like a right pain!!! Does anyone have the same/similar car and found a carseat that will RF long-term and fits well?? The main issue I believe is the steep recline of the front seats in the legacy. Thank you and sorry if there is a similar thread, I couldn't find anything!

Have you tried an evenflo - we had issues with both our cars with carseats as we have jap imports and the seatbelts are too short for most carseats. But the evenflo one is good and it is even rear facing to 16kgs. ------------- http://lilyslim.com">  http://lilypie.com">

The Brio tends to fit well in most makes of vehicle. ------------- Mummy to Issy (3) and Elias (18 months) I did it .. 41 kgs gone! From flab to fab in under a year  http://www.femininefitness.co.nz/category/blog - LFs weight blog

Tiger, thanks for the info. I did have a look at the bumbles website but would rather not rely on the measurements.
I'm in Invercargill and noone sells them here (can't try out), so would like for someone to tell me they fit/don't fit. Noisy, what exact model did you have (or is there only one?  )? I might have a look at that one.
Renee & Lauren, yeah, that plays into it aswell!! Our wagon is a jap import as well and we can't use the seatbelt even for the capsule! 
lilfatty, I guess you mean the same seat as noisy? RF til over 20kg with the radian sounds just really good! Maybe I need a new car???

We have to have our Brio in the centre of our vehicle for the same reason. Yes, it is a bit of a pain, but not that much. I would prefer if it could be behind the passenger seat, but it can't, so I just cope with it in the centre. ------------- http://lilypie.com">  http://lilypie.com">

We have the same vehicle as you(98 Subaru Legacy wagon). And we have bought the Radian. It arrives in the next couple of weeks so can't tell you if it fits yet. I'd researched if it would or not and I'm very hopeful it will fit in the middle seat. If not, no drama as we were planning on getting a new car relatively soon anyway - so we hadn't bought the carseat to fit this particular car anyway. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Thanks, Flissty! Haven't been to the RNN yet, so will give it a go if noone here has tried it.
KandK, can I ask what kind of car do you have that the Brio doesn't fit behind the front seat? I'd just imagine it would be fairly bad on our backs long-term if we would have to install it in the middle. Delli, exciting!!! Please, please let me know how you go with it! |

And the verdict is......
Rock solid installation in the middle seat.
As suspected I couldn't get a secure fit on the outside seats. And the installation does require a bit of effort in the Subaru which will be a bugger if we need to shift it out and then back in (but the Subaru Legacy Wagon 1998 is notorious for being hard to securely install MOST carseats in). I had to twist the stalk of the female end of the seatbelt quite a few times to get it secure enough and had to be full on kneeling right on top of the seat to click the seat belt in. We also put a towel under the front of the seat to get the angle at more than 45 degrees (which also meant the front seats could slide back more, DP is 6Ft 2In with long legs and is comfortable driving). Now that I know what is required though it will take much less time to install. But it's in and I love it. Don't regret buying it for a minute. Next car, we will make sure has ISOFIX though! ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Hope that worked. The last pic shows how much space there is to work with in the front seat. The Radian is narrow enough that you can fit two people either side of the seat in the middle no worries. And we have had our Graco capsule with base in there beside it and it fits in no trouble at all. One more thing with the installation - I thought at one point that I had a secure installation when doing the shake test but it turned out that the lip of the female end of the seatbelt had caught under the plastic of the side of the Radian - so I had to give it another half twist so that the lip didn't get caught and that made it super tight. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Just thought I would add, although I don't have this seat that I have DD's seat in the middle seat and did it for two reasons, its the safest seat in the car and because I liked the fact that I could put her in and not get rained on. Sounds silly, but oh my it has saved me. DD is FF as she was twisting round trying to see us and talk to us but even when she was RF I had been able to unbuckle her and scoop her over the back of it into the front with me when getting out when raining meant that I didn't have to do the mad dash to the back of the car.
