Hi,
Any preggers mums-to-be out there in the Nelson area? Have you had kids here before and what's it like in the hospital here? Are they good? Any luck buying baby stuff for the nursery or have you had to do it mainly online?
I'm new to Nelson (9 months ago) and this is my first baby here but I have two at home.
Thanks

I had Jody at Nelson hospital, I really liked it. The food is glorious (and new mums are allowed to order as much food as they like), you get your own room (share a bathroom with one other mum), and the labour rooms are nice (with a shower and big bath).
Oh, and the hospital mw will bring you an ALL MILK Milo in the morning if you want one, hehehe, such luxury!

Sounds better than birthing in the UK. The food is total crap and the serving size is so small, even little old ladies ask for more. Although the taste is foul so you have to balance the need for food over the preservation of your taste-buds.
I'm looking forward to being a little pampered and having my own room, rather than trying to drown out the snores of other women and jumping up every few minutes cos a baby is crying and it might be mine, but of course its the one in the cot next to the snoring woman!
How long did you stay admitted? I'm having a caesar again, so I'm not sure how long they'll keep me.
Any other ideas or tips, I'd be really glad to know.

I had a VB and stayed for 3 nights. Some people say they get pressured to leave after 2 nights (with VB) but there was a lovely MW on after my second night and she said I can stay as long as I felt I needed to.
I think with CS's you stay around 5 nights.
Also! Not only do you get to have your meals brought to you 3 times a day, there is a kitchen with sandwiches, cookies, *ice cream* and other goodies that new mums can help themselves too. (they don't even judge you if you feel the need to eat ice cream at 3:30am).
They supply cloth nappies (plain square ones) and show you how to use them without pins and you can also use the ugly hospital clothes for your baby if you want to (so you don't have to wash meconium off hehe).
They have a time during the day (something like 1 til 3pm) where it is recommended that all visitors (including dads) go away and let mum and bubs bond/rest.
The mws will look after bubs if you need a break during the night.
They only supply one pack of maternity pads (unless you have a cheeky mw who will steal you more).
The mws don't tell you off for buzzing them a million times with silly questions.
This is all my opinion of course, some people hate hospitals altogether and probably have a very different opinion on Nelson

Hey sarah, I just had my DD by c-sect in april, was totally not planned but she was stuck and making me go backwards! All the theatre staff were great, if you get a Dr Limb (asian dude) he is a total crack up!
The MW's up there are fantastic (except one grrrrrr), I stayed in for 5 days (the max) just so i could get my head around everything. They pretty much leave you alone to do your own thing unless you buzz them for help or a question, you can put a sign up on your door for no-one to disturb you which is great except i forgot and got woken up at 6.30am by the stupid lady bringing the water around......
Most of out stuff we brought off Trade Me, its much cheaper and they grow out of their clothes so fast anyway! Farmers and baby city are the two main stores here. Anything you buy online normally gets here in a couple of days.
Baby on the move are really good for getting car seats, the lady who runs it is fantastic and is baby mad! She will give you all the info and set you up, you can hire or buy off them, its quite cheap to hire.
Hope this helps and good luck
