It's a slow release hormone device inserted under the skin in your upper arm. Lasts for about 5 yrs I think.

I had the Implanon Implant in my arm, but due to constant break through bleeding and nausea I had it taken out about a month ago. If I didnt have those problems on it I would have left it in until we want to start TTC again. I'd totally recommend it.

And yep, you can still BF with it in

Babe they give you a local anaesthetic so the only pain is the needle from that. There is a bit of pushing and pulling but it doesnt hurt.

As for scaring, it is very minimal, approx half a cm I guess. And its on the inside of your arm so not noticeable

i use to live in aussie and heaps of woman over there have this , its a very common form of contripception , i didnt even know they did it in NZ , I am really interested , i ahte the DEPO , im on the mini pill but it can just be such a mission rememebering to take it at the exact smae time every single day , does anyone know if theres a side effect of weightgain on the implant ? ( thats the main reason im not on depo- cos i gained about 15kg on it )

No Probs Babe.

Julz the implant is a progestogen contraceptive so weight gain could be a possible side affect. I was the opposite and lost weight.

oh that would be a great side effect for me. lol. i think breakthrough bleeding may be quite common from what i have heard. i just cant cope with the thought of having another child for a bunch of reasons so i think id rather deal with the side effects (except too much weight gain) i had horrible experiences with Depo and wont remember anything daily so until DH gets the snip i think ill probably suck it up and deal with it
