Hi gals, just wondering whether anybody suffers from having an itchy tummy. I've done a search and saw that Sheza suffered something but had a rash and came right.
I don't have a rash but the itching drives me a bit up the wall, as I'm always having to pull my top up and itch heee heeee!!!
I'm using bio oil every morning and have tested not wearing it to see if it's the bio oil causing it but doesn't seem to change things.
Maybe it's just my tummy growing and stretching, the itchyness isn't in one place it's all over. Maybe I should try another cream and see if that would help. I'm just interested to see if anyone else has had this.
Thanks

I'm afraid it sounds like stretching skin causing the itching. I had the same thing and bio oil made it worse but my hubby swears by it - obviously not for pregnancy itching or stretchmarks He's a long-distance runner and it helps his skin.
Have you tried avocado oil or just smearing avocado over your belly, it's actually nicer than it sounds. Also adding fish oil into your diet could help, but hopefully it'll be transient but be prepared for periods of itching throughout your pregnancy on and off. You could go to the GP and ask for an anti-histamine like chloramphenicol which is safe in pregnancy. I had it when I had obstetric cholestasis in my last pregnancy and had the most amazingly itchy hands and feet.
Hope it doesn't drive you mad

i have it... nothing has really helped - no rash... just itchy... when I'm out I usually realise Ive exposed my belly to everyone as Im just so used to lifting my top and itching it a bit!! haha... have dry skin from time to time there too.. so then i moisturize at night too and it helps.
use bio oil in morning but still get dry skin so use Vaseline cocoa butter one at night...
I dont have one strech mark.. so think for me its more of the dry skin? or stretching but without marks?
Annoying isnt it!

I've been having that too, and I've already got stretch marks else where figure my tummy ones will match.
I simply don't have stretchy skin. Its a strange sensation for the first time in my life I feel like I can feel my skin stretch.
Have found anything to relieve it either, apart from a good scratch.

Hmmm very interesting so it seems I am not the only one, that feels good to know IYKWIM. I get quite dry skin, not flaky but on my elbows particularly. Marika had a giggle at you saying you expose your belly for a good itch heee heee. I have some Palmers coconut moisturiser or what ever it was so might give that a go to.
SarahG no I haven't tried the advocado oil, it's meant to be very nourishing though.
Caliandjack it is a weird sensation aye.
Thanks for all your responses so far, really appreciated.

Search PURPP - a number of us have had it and it can be really hellish. It may be that (though it's quite early for PURPP) or it may just be the reaction to the skin stretching.
I loved Aveeno moisturiser - that was one of the few things that helped. At the worst, I was having hydrocortisone cream, calamine and Aveeno. I don't recommend the first two without medical supervision. Baths with baking soda or oats are really good.

Hi Asicsgal
I have used this for the last few weeks and it seems to work for me! My tummy wasn't mega itchy but definitely enough to bother me. Since using this I have had no itchiness :-)
Hope you find something that works!

Cool C&J...good to know you can get it at Kmart
I like it too because it is so easy to use! I like the spray bottle as opposed to fiddling around with tops and bottles etc
Good luck! nothing worse then itching that doesn't go away.

hello, i can recommend Mahu lotions, they seem to really helped me with the intense itching. also palmers cocoa oil itchy skin relief seemed to do the trick. i believe its the skin stretching so make sure you are oiled up and moisturised

I had the itchy tummy thing from time to time . . . . I used bio-oil and Palmers cocoa butter, plus drank lots of water. I ended up with only one small stretch mark so think all that helped!

I've got the same thing (with a rash)... and eczema on legs and arms.. itching like crazy
I found it helped to wear breathable, natural fabrics against my skin - so merino or cotton ... basically I ditched the synthetic singlet tops I used to wear under my clothes as an extra layer.
Plain aqueous cream helped, and when bad I use hydrocortizone to relive the itching.
And I think Flissty means PUPPP (pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy)

a lady I know through my Mum works in the pharmaceutical industry and she has only bad things to say about Bio-oil, its not made of nice stuff (I can't remember what exactly) despite the name. Although I have also heard other people who say it is brilliant for scars and marks.
May as well try something else if it seems to be irritating you.
I haven't used anything at all, I don't mind having a few battle scars (and in truth can't be bothered moisturising myself regularly!) and I haven't had an itchy tummy at all.

Yep my tummy was very itchy throughout my whole pregnancy - I used just standard Nivea moisturiser & bio oil (I alternated days as I preferred moisturiser more but thought bio oil might do more good!) twice a day and it definitely eased the itching if I kept up with it. I didn't end up with 1 stretch mark on my tummy - am not sure if this was down to the regular moisturising or just genetics.

i had this problem as well, it was sooo bad towards the end, i used aqeous cream and sometimes aveeno daily moisturiser which helped a little bit, nothing really stopped the itching though unfortunately for me, i also was covered in stretchmarks (i have the worst skin ever! ) i had to wait it out but as soon as i had DS the itching stopped, so fingers crossed its not stretchmarks as i moisturised every day all day and still ended up with a belly bump covered all over in stretch marks! dum!

I used to use almond oil and it seemed to work well, up until about a month ago. Now I have an itchy rash all down one side of my belly - it's driving me nuts!
I've stopped using everything - no soap or moisturiser or almond oil and it still hasn't gone away.
I'm due on Thursday so hopefully baby comes out soon at it goes away! I looked up PUPPP on wikipedia Flissty and it looks exactly like the photo in the sidebar.

Just try not to scratch it. I know it sounds hard but try giving it a wee slap instead of itching - itching it will increase your chances of getting stretch marks (so I've been told) . I'm preggy with bub number two and have so far escaped stretch marks by using oil after showering. I used a Weleda one for bub one but am just using sweet almond oil (it's cheaper) for this one and so far so good.

LOL Nicola, yes it is easier said than done not to itch. The Palmers stuff seems to be doing the trick as I haven't really had much itchyness of late, just one day so I applied more moisturiser. Hmmmm I have to improve in my water intake as I'm really slack and this probably doesn't help.
Thanks for all your replies.
Rubyrose best wishes for your labour and meeting your little bubs
