Ok, I need some opinions!! I did a search, and the last thread about these was in 2008. Who on here has one, and would you recommend getting one?? We are thinking of getting one. We don't have a PS3 or Xbox or anything like that.

Are there any particular extras you would recommend getting? We would probably get the Wii Sports and Fit along with it.

We got ours for Christmas from DH's brother. He got us a bundle that had a few games and a few extras for the kids. We played it hard out for the whole of the summer, and now we hardly touch it.

You will need at least two remotes and you will also need the motion plus attachments.

If you are getting the board, you may want to look at getting the "step" attachment.

Our fave games are/were:
Wii Resort
Wii Mariokarts.

Compared to the Xbox and PS3 I think it's comparable.. there just aren't that may "kid" friendly games.. don't get me wrong, Cooper is awesome on MarioKarts and can kick serious butt... on the Wii Fit there are probably two games he can play.

ETA: I added that about Cooper because it can be quite family friendly IYKWIM.
Also DH and I have lots of fun playing tennis against each other.. that gets a sweat up too! Probably more than the Wii Fit IMO.

We have a Wii and play the Wii Resort.
We it, it's a definite alternative to an evening in front of the tellie.

I can't comment on the Wii Fit yet but will be getting it later this year

I really want one, but wonder if the novelty will wear off and then I'll be annoyed about spending $400 on something I never use...

We have all 3 & the PS3 is the most used & the best.

We got the xbox 360 for the kids & they have a few games they play.

We got the Wii last xmas & often have have challenges in the weekends the kids love it.

We were going to get wii fit but the PS3 has a better option coming out so we will get that instead.

I think the Wii has a great range of fun get up & go games & the price is really good also.

Love our Wii

A gives all the games a go except DH's shoot em ones.

We have brain academy, Carnival games & Golf plus Fit & Sport.

A & C together do the running on the Fit program. He gets a kick out of trying but has no clue really. Just have to watch small people and swinging arms.

I like it as it's easy, especially in the carnival ones to play together.

We also regularily go bowling as a family

We have a Wii, Wii Fit and Guitar Hero (and a billion other games). We go through phases of using it a lot and then not for ages. Usually when we get a new game, DH will play till he clocks it, or if we have friends over we'll get into something and then DH and I might play a few nights in a row after that too.

Games that we've played with our 4yo nephew - Mariokarts, Wario Smooth Moves, Cars (based on the movie), Wii Sports

Games that are great if you have a crowd of mates round (specially if you have 4 remotes - we ask friends to bring theirs if we know we're going to play) - Mario Party, Smooth Moves, Wii Sport, Guitar Hero or any of the Band/Singing games, Mariokarts...

The thing I like most about the Wii is that I can usually hold my own with DH whereas with a lot of PC/Playstation games he is way too good and I get bored too fast

That's kind of what I wonder too, but if that happens it will only be my own fault, if you know what I mean??

Is there anyone who has one and DOESN'T recommend it?? And why?

My MIL got one just before I found out I was UTD and we had so much fun playing on it (Wii sports, the new one wii fit) that we went and got one the next day! Tbh I hardly use it now as if I am not with Lily I am cleaning, prepping dinner/lunch/bfast, or on here or fb. Last time I used it was maybe when she was 2 months old! - oops!

But if you are having a few friends round it is heaps of fun!

I do feel annoyed for spending the money on one, but I know I will use it again someday (I hope), although sometimes when BIL (11 years) comes over he asks to play on it.

I just got wii and the wii fit plus. If you are the type of person who buys something and looses interest fast I say don't bother. If you are like me though when I keep using something then its great. Like my treadmill I got a few years ago and it still gets used regularly so its been worth it. Same will be with the wii.

Shop around though as I found a huge difference in prices in different stores.

Our friends have one, they have a baby (no other kids) so only bought it for their own use. They loved it for the first three months and now never use it at all. We have a PS3 and the same thing happened with that. Now we only use it to watch blu-rays. I guess it really depends on if you like to spend time playing video games? We have now realised that we don't!

I play lots of games on the net, but because we don't have a PS or anything like that, I'm not sure about video games. I LOVE playing sport though, but can't do it these days because the times just don't suit (ETA: primarily because of work, not the kids)...so I'm figuring I might transfer it to the Wii??? Dunno if that will work....

I don't lose interest very fast, I would LOVE a treadmill but we just don't have the space for it here!!!

I also have the sims and we had mario kart, etc. It is heaps of fun.

I used to pop round to my besties all the time to use her treadmill!

not sure when DH will know he's a Sony fan, ha ha. Think in a few months..he will let me know lol.

I saw it on tv a few weeks ago might of been close up & they had the grannies playing also. Several of the games you don't need to hold anything so the exercise stuff should be good. No sure on cost but the graphics should be great

Kate just got a Harvey Norman mailer (must hide from DH..funny how he finds these ones & not the sparkly jewellery ones I leave out) & they have them for $369 with sports bundle, good price if you can't get it cheaper at work.

Wii fit plus bundle is $178

I hired one to see if I liked it or not - and Im not sure if it was the hired one or what but I didnt find it very acurate.

Like when we were playing the baseball one you could just flick it and it hit it if that makes sense?

I kind of thought that for the price it would be super acurate?

The bundle is exactly the same price at work, but I get staff discount on it, so it makes it cheaper...the Fit Plus bundle is the same price at work as well, so I'll get it from there.

Stacey...I don't have enough cleavage to try it!!!!

There is away you can Synchronizing the Wii Remote with the Wii Console & then the timing & everything will be ok.

Not sure about hired one as I don't think they would be looked after as well.

We got ours last April, we used it a whole heap for the first 6 or so months, even took it to my parents house when we visited. Everyone has a blast on it. But, it hasn't been used since DS was born.

We have Shaun White snowboarding, Sports, Sports Resort, Fit & Crash Bandicoot. According to DH the graphics are pretty average (when comapred to PS), but it really is heaps of fun.

Our nephew (3yo) has played a few of the games on sports resort, he had no idea what he was doing but got a real kick out of it all the same.

We have a wii and wii fit and a bunch of games. We played it a lot when we first got it but dont use it as much now. DH uses it a lot more than me, especially since he got mario galaxy 2 for his birthday. I think it depends if you like video games or not as to how much you would use it.

We have an old xbox which DS used to watch his movies onto a PS2 our which he has just started playing in the last 6 months or so and brought myself a wii last year with the wii fit, a fitness work plus the resort game.

I think the wii has got a lot more kid friendly games.

I've just arranged to buy one from one of the girls at work - her and her DP bought it a couple of months ago, but are more into the shoot em up games, which Wii doesn't really offer....so I get the Wii, Wii Sports, the Olympic Games one and 3 other games for just over $400 And will then get the Wii Fit Plus to go with it!
