Hey Guys,

I really want to make some bumper pads and matching cot rail protectors similar to this:

But where is a good material shop in Auckland for me to buy some white waffle material, and some light grey stripe material for the contrasting bit?

I'm from the Shore and have tried Spotlight and Arthur Toye but they had nothing. Any other recommendations - perhaps over the bridge somewhere for a bigger store??

Thanks!

I've had a quick look online but didn't come across anything - my search kept on bringing up pre-made stuff which was made out of waffle material rather than the actual material itself

Have you tried Geoffs Emporium, not even sure they still exist, but that have all sorts of different materials.

Is that on Dominion Road? I have not been in there for a couple of years but it is huge.

Yeah that's the one Jazzy, wasn't sure if they're still operating.

Try Global Fabrics , 139 Newton Road.

They have a good range of stuff.

What about the emporium in Browns Bay? Ikes?

Yeah, I've tried Ikes but they didn't have anything. Might give Global Fabrics a try - I just had a look at their website and it looks like they would have quite a big range. I might pop them an email to check that they have some waffle stuff in stock - thanks!

I have heard lots about Centrepoint in Newmarket - I haven't been there myself as I am not great in the sewing department, however it always seems to come up in conversation when people are shopping for fabric...

I was going to suggest Centrepoint in Newmarket as well. Good luck!

Oh yeah, Centrepoint was quite good - I went in there a couple of months ago and didn't see any waffle stuff but might give them another try if Global Fabrics doesn't have anything.

There a place that is in Lovegrove Crescent in Otara, cant remember the name, that is meant to be great for fabric.

Yep, I'd go with Designer Textiles, Lovegrove Cres in Otara. I doubt Global would have that sort of thing. Have you tried the Nick's Outlet Store in Barry's POint Rd on the Shore?

DT and Nick's have more housy type material as well as dress fabrics so you would probably have more luck there.

Spotlight have cotton waffle fabric but only in cream. I was looking for white for ages and gave up and bought cream and I can't really tell the difference (but I wasn't putting it with other white stuff).

other option is to buy a waffle cotton blanket when they come on sale at Briscoes etc (I was way too impatient) and cut it down.

Be aware the stuff shrinks like crazy so you want to hot wash it and dry it a couple of times before you cut it and make anything.

Hope it helps.

ahhhh so Spotlight have cream?! Might give them a call today. We went to Centrepoint in the weekend and I couldn't see anything (although it was a very quick visit as our parking was running out!).

Haven't heard of Nick's Outlet Store - might give them a go too. Unfortunately Otara is a little too far to go although it sounds like a great store!

Thanks for the tip Sarah - good to know about the shrinkage

Spotlight may order in for you (that's what we've done in the past to get different colours etc). Nicks in Barrys Point Rd, or Johns (?) Emporium in Wairau Park (up by Arthur Toyes). I think Nicks is also in Dominion Rd.

Thanks guys for all your suggestions - Global Fabrics didn't have any. But Spotlight did have some cream waffle-type material - wasn't exactly waffle but had some texture which was close enough. Thanks for all your help!

Now just have to find the time to make them!

sorry this is a bit late but the lady at strawberry jam makes stuff out of white waffle, and she also sells fabric. I bought a duvet cover from her, and some more of the fabric to make a blind with. So if you get stuck again, try her. She has a website and sells on tm
Good luck with the sewing!!
