Does anyone know which are safe to use in pregnancy? I meant to go to the pharmacist today, but forgot, and now my heartburn has started and will no doubt linger all night I have some Mylanta liquid, is that ok to take?

I used it when pregnant so should be all good. If you don't want to use will plain milk help?

Mylanta is fine, as is Gaviscon - I drank litres of Mylanta, along with milk, while I was pregnant. I was also on Ranitidine (prescription only).

Ugh, I just took the Mylanta - *then* read the back of the bottle that it should have been refrigerated this whole time, and not more than 6 months old!! I feel all queasy and gross now, I've told DH we may be making a late night run to the supermarket for some more!

I also drank Mylanta like it was going out of fashion too. I hope you get some relief soon.

I second the vote for Ranitidine on prescription - it is the best thing ever and has totally kept me sane.

I found if I used Gaviscon I had to have a lot of it and keep on taking it throughout the night, whereas Ranitidine you just take one tablet a day.

Thanks all. I bought some more Mylanta last night, but did need to get up in the middle of the night to have more, so might look into a prescription if it would last longer.

I was told by my MW that all heatburn / antacid stuff is fine when pregnant. I used Gaviscon when pregnant and it was good

Pharmacist said to me last week only the Mylanta and Gaviscon are safe, best to have the gaviscon because the Mylanta has aluminium in it!

Yeah I was told only to use the gaviscon coz of the aluminium in the other types.
But then I got the rantidine...not sure but over here you don't need a prescription, just ask the chemist...might be worth a shot? It is SO worth it, pregnancy makes it hard enough to sleep without having heartburn as well lol!

Mylanta made me gag - it was possibly worse than the reflux!
Hint: apple juice, almonds and jelly beans are good treats if you want a snack but are having awful reflux/indigestion.

You can't get ranitidine over the counter here...
And Gaviscon vs Mylanta can be individual choice...Gaviscon did nothing for me at all, but I was prescribed huge amounts of Mylanta because they prefer not to give you ranitidine long term. My heartburn started before I was even 12 weeks pregnant though, so I was a long term patient

Ranitidine is available over the counter - brand name is Zantac. :)
