Once me and my friend found out when the parent and child show was on in Wellington, we arranged to go down in her car (petrol more economical in her car) and to meet her friend down there and my friend as well. My friend rang me the other night and said she can't make it now, she gave me notice which was fine and that is sorted. But.....
I get home from Uni just before and my friend rang me to say that we (me, her and her friend + their 2 children) are going to go down in one car together, meaning I have to sit from Palmy to Wellington and back again in the middle of 2 carseats . Now I am so angry at her for changing the travel arrangements that I hung up on her, telling her it's a tad unfair for me to have to sit between 2 children that ain't even mine and have to tend to either one of them if they grizzle. I know I am the smallest out of the 3 of us and i'm pregnant but still this kids ain't mine and shouldn't have to do everything. She then told me well she really want to go down with her friend now as her car is bigger - meaning petrol will cost more. I'm thinking I may just give the whole thing up and not go down there at all now, even thou I really want to get all the samples of nappies, wipes and food.
Am I just being all hormonal?, or she just not even thinking about the arrangements we have made and how the trip will effect me? All I want to do is have a cry about the whole thing.

that is a bit unfair of her to be putting you in the back seat with two kiddies who like you said aren't even yours. Even if you are the smallest, it would be better for one of the mothers to be in the back tending to them if they grizzle etc....
hope you can sort something out.....and don't end up on missing the show

I've been to 2 now and I think they are great. I'm hoping I can go with someone else now, she's just confirming if she can take the day off work.

I'll go with ya!
And if ya really wanted my car is in desperate need of a proper run and you would be able to sit in the front seat too and no kiddies to attend to at all! Getting off work isn't a problem since it's plenty of notice.
Hope that cheers you up a bit!

And the leave form is in, I won't have any probs getting that day off work. It's not like I'm busy at the mo, I'm actually getting really bored at the moment from lack of work!

well did she say you would have to sit in the back? or did you just assume (cause thats what it sounded like). i think you might be being a bit hormonal.

Because if the price of petrol it does make sense for you to all go in the same car if you all fit. And yeah im with Deb did they really expect you to sit in the middle or is it just what you assumed? Dont think its worth getting upset at your friend about.

Aw man, I'd love to go, but don't think I'll be making the trip with a newborn somehow. Well, I felt kinda angry at my mum and sis for thinking that it'd be OK for me to swap between the back seat and front all the way from Palmy to Auckland and back, and got really snotty about mum saying that her parents drove her around in the back seat of their car when she was in her 9th month (God forbid one of them should have lowered themselves to take the back seat for a few trips), so there's no reason why I shouldn't be in the back seat now (I thought - actually, there's no reason why my princess of a sister shouldn't just offer to sit in the back seat for the whole trip so I don't feel seedy all the way and can have a little leg room and a seat that isn't cut on a friggin ANGLE like their daft back seat is...) hmm... maybe I still have issues with the whole thing! Oh dear. Anyway, what I was going to say was that it's moments like these that make other people sometimes dislike us pregnant ones! We just have to put our own comfort first sometimes and not everyone likes watching us do that. I wouldn't do the trip in the back between 2 carseats, but maybe that's not what your friend intends? But Stacey's offer sounds GREAT!

No she did say that I was the one to sit in the back seat, thats what really got me off. Me and Stacey are going down together now which will be a lot more fun.

For those getting put in the back seat - just remind those in the front that you have been getting seedy during long trips confined to a back seat, but if they are okay with it and understand that vomit propels forward rather than back, then so be it....

oh well mummy becks - i am glad you are going anyway and it sounds like you might enjoy yourself now. i always find it hard going places like that with lots of other people cause you can never really do what you want or spend as long as you want or need... and with two kids in tow it may have been a short visit. hope you enjoy the show - i enjoyed the ones in auck i went to.

Bugger eh, the backseat was the plan!!! Stuff that! You'll have a great time with Stacey anyway (and no-one elses kids to babysit for the trip... woo-hoo!).

hhm who likes being in the back between two kids even when they aren't preggers?! getting raisins and boogers and dribble smeared on you from greebly hands, and having them pull your hair etc.. ok maybe i have just had some bad experiences.

And no Andrew (my boy), I am leaving him with his father for the day. Well really he will be at daycare for the day and then daddy will have him for the afternoon and evening until me and Stace decide to come back home.

I'm really hoping to get to the Ak one - but with two babies in tow probably not...
I wouldn't be sitting in the back seat. I sat in the back with my uncle on the way to New PLymouth for my grandad's funeral when I was 36 weeks with Maya and even tho there was plenty of room ( a seat in between us) I still got really sick and ended up fainting...

My concern for sitting in the back - apart from all those voiced - would be the belt. Most cars I know use all the belt things for the carseats - and a lap belt just isn't safe for a pregnant woman!
Now - on this show - has anyone dragged their DH/D along - and the DH/DP enjoyed them at all? We will have started trying by the Auckland one, but I don't want to take hubby unless it is *man friendly*...

Yeah right - mine would laugh if I even suggested it! But there are heaps of Dad's there - I guess it depends on what sort of person your DH is - mine is waaaay to tough and cool for something like a baby show
Oh and even if you're not preg if you lie and say you are you will get heaps of newborn nappies and freebies.

That is a really good point about lap belts in the back Miss. Have seen a really nasty case with a preggy lady who was in an accident sitting there - not nice at all...

My DH loved it as they give out lots of free stuff and hes a sucker for that! They gave out free popcorn and a few other food items so he was in heaven! He wasn't very keen on the baby stuff as such- I wouldn't take him unless you're sure because you really want to take your time and see everything and if they're being dificult you can't enjoy it (hehe sounds like I'm talking about taking the kids!).
