Hi - I am sure there is a thread on here somewhere about this but I don't know where to find a 'search forum' function.

What ear your thoughts about taking baths during pergnancy? Having an IVF baby has definitely made me a bit more cautious than I thought it would ... and I wonder if it is safe to have baths (would be so nice if I could!). I am 15 weeks.

I have read that it should be at body temp if I do... not too hot... but don't have a thermometer. I am naturally a little bit cold blooded and loved to be warm.

Love everyone's thoughts on this on this board. Thanks all in advance.

Bx

Baths are bliss during pregnancy! I wouldn't have been without my bath every night to soothe the aches and pains

Its not ideal to have very hot spas because they constantly heat and you can overheat and spike your core body temperature.

I continued to have my much loved, hot baths right through pregnancy. You should continue them at a temperature that is comfortable to you and hop out if you start to feel uncomfortable or faint.

Rest assured, sitting in very warm water which is comfortable to you will not harm your bub directly as it is well protected by its membranes.

I'm planning one tonight (it's been ages) but DH has to clean the bath first. Better go tell him that!

My grandma told me I couldn't bath because I would burn the baby. Not sure how as I only ever have luke warm-warm baths!

Anyway baths are fine and often a lot of babies love it too! Lily would get so active!
We now bath together every night!

I LOVED baths during pregnancy!!
:-)

If you are worried about overheating, perhaps don't fill it too full...and let your belly poke out. Great for watching baby wriggles when your bubs starts to move :-)   (that is one of my nicest pregnant memories....and yelling out to DH to come check out the wriggles too!)

Baths are all good as long as they're not too hot, but if they were you probably wouldn't be able to tolerate it anyway. Remember alot of antenatal aqua aerobics classes are run in hydrotherapy pools which are at least 35 degrees. I also took hydrotherapy sessions for 2 hours each week when I was pregnant. Just made sure I drank plenty.

I agree with the other ladies!!

i had a bath nearly everynight while pregnant. It was total bliss. I loved it. Was also cool seeing my belly sticking out of the water & seeing my baby moving around. It would make dd so active in there

My MW said as long as it wasn't so hot to turn my skin bright pink (you know how those blissfully hot baths do), so I just made them a bit cooler, and I also had my belly poking out of the water. The idea is you mustn't increase your body temperature because your baby has no way of thermoregulating him/herself so you have to maintain a safe body temp for him/her.

I was like you - before I was pregnant I bathed every night (very hot), but after becoming pregnant I was scared to have baths even a lot cooler ones than I used to have. However, I mentioned it on one of the forums and discovered that most people are still happily bathing and that I was the odd one out. So now I do have a warm bath about once a week - partly I feel better about it now as my belly sticks up out of the water so I know that it is just the rest of me which is in the water. I've never measured the temperature but I certainly don't feel hot when I'm in, so probably more like lukewarm.

It would be really good if there was a book or something to give very detailed advice about pregnancy related things like this. You get such conflicting advice from people and the internet, it's easy to drive yourself crazy and then when you ask a professional like an OB or midwife you realise that the stuff you've been told/read/googled is nonsense.

I loved baths when I was pregnant too, until near the end when more of me was out of the water than in and I couldn't work out how to get comfy. Oh how I wished for a spa bath during that time!

Thank goodness for this thread - have been debating a bath (and actually had a warmish spa at a hot spring the other day). Been feeling guilty ever since...

Baths are great! Just don't run it as hot as you would normally, drink cold water and get out to cool down if you feel like you are heating up too much.
My baby seems to love it too, he always starts moving and kicking!

is it safe to lie on your back in the bath? or is that a problem.

I always lied (lay ? ) on my back in the bath
And, when you get nearer to your due date, lying on your left side in the bath is good to get baby in a position to come down .
Tho , it is tricky .....

How on earth do you get in and out of the bath though?
I'd love to have one atm but worried once I'm in I'll get stuck and not be able to get myself out.

Lol Maebee I've heard of it happening to some! Cali that's what the other halves are for, but you should be able to use the sides to 'oomph' you up, if that makes sense.
