Hi ladies, I'm in desperate need of some help! My DD (6months) has started getting terrible nappy rash on her inside thighs and bum. She's been in Fuzzi Bunz full time since birth and was fine till about a month ago.
I didn't change anything (that I know of) so not sure what's causing it. She's still exclusively breast fed, and I change her 5-6 x daily. I've tried a few things to get rid of it: - stripping the naps with lots of detergent-free washes/rinses - changing from ecostore liquid to surf sensitive powder - doing an extra rinse after wash - giving her more nappy-free time - switching to softer mio bambino liners BUT none of seems to be working!! I'm trying different natural creams - Tui baby balm and Weleda nappy change cream, which don't do much to clear it up. It only thing that does work is a prescribed cream with hydrocordizone which I don't want to use regularly! Anyone have any ideas? Can I use bepathane, or will that affect the nappies? Should I apply aqueous cream or oily "fatty cream" to that area or better to keep it dry? Please help! I'm sure it would clear with disposables but I'm loathe to stop using cloth.

what are you using wipe wise? I have heard these can make a difference. I have also heard some swear by only wiping when there is poo and not when it is just pee.
you could probably use bepanthen if you use a disposible liner |

| I've been using Little Genie disposable wipes. Maybe they're too astringent? I have chux cloths I'm thinking of switching to, or maybe i should use a more natural disaposable wipe? Will take advice to only use for poo. Thanks! |

We had bad rash DD was in sposies at the time but we stopped using wipes and used flannels and water and it cleared up. We were using huggies sensitive as well so even that can hurt. Could try baking soda and water I think it is. If its raw red rash then using wipes with chemicals can make it worse
On and we in the past have used sudocream it works SO quickly. I don't think your meant with cloth but we use a disposable liner, and because they are so wide it doubles over then slather her in it. You can always strip the nappies after its cleared I guess if your concerned. I soak mine in Nappisan for aslong as I can get away with it (normally over night) then wash with no powder. The idea with creams is it creates a barrier between baby and the urine and poo so spread it on thick I got told to spread it on to whip cream consistency. It may also be thrush which you would NEED to use a hydrocortizone ointment with to clear it up. ------------- http://www.myfitnesspal.com/weight-loss-ticker">

okay, I'll stop using the disposable wipes, and will try sudocream. Definitely not thrush, or bacterial according to the doctor, but may need to go back if this keeps up...
Bizzy, I use quarter scoop of powder for a half load. Sound right? No haven't tried without liners. New ones are super super soft so don't think it could be that. |

I use muslin wipes with just water on at home, and DD came out in a horrible rash in her second week at daycare because they were using their wipes on her (I'd said it was ok for them to try them) so now I send her with muslin wipes as well as cloth nappies and she's all good again. Her carer thought it was a teething rash so that must look similar. Plunket also saw it and suggested a food reaction - have you started eating something new? Perhaps a fruit thats come into season?

Thanks T_Rex, will def try reuseable wipes and water for a while and see if that makes a difference. What is a teething rash? I thought she might be getting a tooth (red cheeks of late!). Could that be the cause of the rash?
My diet is pretty standard and steady. Don't think I've added anything very different lately. |

I used surf sensitive powder when first stating out in cloth. It was terrible for the nappies, they stunk of wee and Jody got a nasty rash. I then changed to Am-O-Lin liquid and have never had to strip them again.
Also, when Jody was cutting her front teeth she did get rashy. I use sposies overnight so I could lather her up with vaseline for bedtime which seemed to help. -------------

DD get a rash every time shes teething (apperantly it's quite common). I use Sudocream with clothnappies and washable liners. I also only use water and cloth wipes when at home.
If you want to try something natural, I found "Pot of gold" really good (but have run out  ). You can by it of trademe or they have a website.
When DD was really bad I put Pot of gold on first and then loads of sudocream on top, that seem to work. Hope it clear up soon! |

A quarter scoop for half a load does sound quite a lot. For a full load of clothing I generally only use about a quarter scoop. For my nappies (which is generally about a quarter load at a time) I use about half a TBSP and then do an extra rinse cycle at the end. -------------

MamaT, I'll try reducing powder as well, good idea. DD will be in sposies for a week from Saturday while we're on holiday. I'll be interested to see if it clears up and whether it all comes back again once we're back in cloth! |
