Still trying to decide which one of these 3 carriers to get! From my research there are good features about each of them!
I have tried on an ergo and seems great, also just discovered that tweedle baby hire out the Beco in Wellington (where I live) so I can try that one too. Just need to find somewhere that has the Manduca to try out - does anyone know if anyone in Wellington has them? I think Organic Baby in Petone will be getting them in soon but I am getting impatient! ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Try Aquabub or Babybotts (google them) for hirage. Don't think they're Wgtn based but they'll post them to you. You can hire Ergos through BellyBeyond. Also do a search on OB for wellington and babywearing - I think there are a few girls who sometimes get together and you may be able to try before you buy.
I have a Beco which is pretty but DS (now 2) doesn't like. Ergo was good but the back was quite low for my tall boy. Personally, if I got another one, I'd get a Manduca (But I had to have a Beco first cos I'm a fabricoholic) ------------- Mum to two wee boys |

This is all personal opinion based on experience but, I found the Beco too fiddly with the internal harness system, but they *are* rather pretty.
Ergo is a good solid SSC but I too had problems with it sitting too low for me with DD2, with DD1 it was OK but she was already 18 months when I bought it. What I ended up doing was selling my Moby and Ergo and getting the Manduca - and I looooooooove it, so smitten LOL It is more adjustable and therefore more adaptable, and you have the choice of plain colours or some really gorgeous limited edition prints are coming out too. I will also make a point of mentioning the Patapum, although I haven't had much experience with it, it's a little less expensive than the others although you'd have to decide on the baby or the toddler version (one has a longer back). I have a manduca (mostly cos MamaT chose it, and I know she'd done plenty of research and I was flat out at the time  ) and I like it. I did try another friends on first, just to see how it worked. She also raved about it, so that was all the convincing I needed.
I second littlestar's comment about choosing a design that DH is happy to wear. It's nice to have him carry DD instead of me

I really recommend trying them before you buy.
I tried the Beco first as I really liked the thought of the internal harness and thought it would be easier for a first time baby wearer to use. I found the panel didnt really fit me well at all and I couldn't get the Beco comfortable at all. I ended up buying a Manduca and I really love it just because it is so adjustable that even my dad can wear it

I looked into all those ones too and ended up going for the Manduca. I liked that it has an extentable bit for when bubs gets taller/longer. It is so comfy and so easy to use. I was able to put DS in a back carry first go. It is easy peasy to adjust and go from person to person. I did a few google searches comparing the manduca, ergo and patapum and the manduca seemed to come out on top most of the time.
I haven't personally tried any other SSC but I can definately recommend the manduca, I haven't regretted my choice for a second. -------------

I have only tried the Beco once but it was super fiddly although as everyone has said they ARE pretty.
I have a Patapum Toddler I got it when DS was 3 months( he's a big fella) and its great. It fits DH too. They are a deent cheaper option (and I like to be different )
Even DD goes in it now and she fits in there great. It is a little harder to chuck a toddler over your shoulder though

i tried the Beco yesterday and really liked that one too - the BIG selling factor for me on that one is I feel more confident getting her on my back as she is fully secure in it before clipping waiat belt back again and its more like putting on a back pack. Since I will mostly be using this when out at about - ie, out shopping and getting her out of car in a car park, I am not sure I like the idea of trying to get her on my back first like with the Manduca & Ergo. I know after a bit of practice it might be easier but still I feel the Beco is safer in that respect. Am tempted to just get the Beco and be done with it! ------------- http://lilypie.com">

I find it easy to get DD on my back. I put the manduca on then shoulder toss her over (I'm a shorty so a hip scoot is tricky) have one hand on her while bending forward and put on each shoulder strap. To start with I did it kneeling on the floor so that it was safer.

I just got my beco gemini today, what a great carrier love it, so comfortable and versatile it does from newborn to toddler and 4 different positions, no infant inserts needed like the ergo and you can have baby facing out like the baby born but this carrier by far out does any other i have tried.
