Oh wow my couches are nasty! 2 years of spilled stuff, animals, other dirty things and it's not the same as it used to be LOL. Any tips on cleaning it? Like, any good products I can get that will get the stains out? It was a bit funky when I first got it 2nd hand anyway, but now it's got like, spaghetti stains from a certain little boy who dumped his dinner on it one day - it just never came out!

Yikes, I know what you mean!

We have leather, so they clean up pretty easily, but I feel sick when I look at the cloth after wiping

maybe hire a rug doctor from the supermarket? bout $40 for 4 hours, +$15 approx bond (get back) +$10 ish for the stain remover wash stuff (get to keep for next time)

a little pricey but cheaper than a commercial clean, and better than a hand scrub?

if you dont want to do that.... maybe vinegar and baking soda/powder (i dont know which one lol)

or even try a bar of sard wonder soap (bout 2-3 bucks from the supermarket) its gentle enough that you can use it for your dishes or regular soap so wont be a pro if the kids get their hands in lol.

good luck! we have 2nd hand cream couches that are a strange shade of mottly brown lol. need to clean em too. i might try a steam mop lol!

Hey I bought a pink fabric cleaning bottle vanish frend multi fabric and it worked quite well on a beige lounge suite. Just spray it on and wipe or gently rub with a wet cloth.

Word of warning about sard wonder soap. This was 12-13 years ago so maybe it has changed since then but my daughter poisoned (not severe) herself with it. It is great stuff but we flatted with a guy from Bhutan and he used to take the soap outside and wash his clothes on the concrete drive. My DD was with him and ate about a small fingernail size chunk of the soap. Put it in her mouth and bit a piece off. About 4 hours later she started vomiting soapy stuff and we took her to A and E and the poisons hotline said it was the eucalyptus in it. It wasn't life or death etc but it was a bit frightening not knowing what it was and she was off for a few days like having a tummy bug.

In saying that I love sard wonder soap and use it all the time. I keep it out of reach of my youngest just incase. I know it is one of those freak things but to save yourself a night of washing blankets and a vomiting little one I thought I would post. It may work really well on the couch and of course is not going to make them sick by using it on the couch just when using it keep an eye on the bar. lol.

Oh yes the vanish one! Why didnt I think of that. I dont really wanna hire the Rug Doctor - we dont have carpet in our place, so I couldnt really justify the cost just for 2 small couches without carpet to wash too :P I'll go to the supermarket and get some vanish!
