I'm having a mindblank.

Where are good places to go for a weekend away within about 90 minutes of Auckland? Does anyone know of good baches etc that don't cost the earth??

I second Matakana way - so lovely!

Piha or Port Waikato - if you like the west coast beaches.

Orewa or Whangaparoa - guess it depends where you live in Auckland?

fliss i'm the queen of this since we have a car screamer! And that's the toddler!

We go up to Mangawhai Heads quite a bit, also Waipu and Waipu cove are cool. My friend has a cool bach at Uratiti Beach - big old villa in the countryside - well set up for kids with toys etc.

Matakana/Leigh region is all nice. And some good kids stuff around there too. some big farmyard thing just on your way into Matakana where you can feed the animals etc and a huge playground.

Time is ticking for you now lady!

Yeah, I've looked online. I just can't make a decision! I just realised I'm teaching the morning we go away so it needs to be close to Auckland if we're going to have a decent time away.

We normally go Coromandel or Raglan but they feel a bit far away. Will keep looking around Matakana/Leigh cos that's a favourite. If only I could do wine tasting ........

sigh. And yep Ange, only 2 months today

Tutukaka, Rurakaka, Ngunghuru, all lovely relaxing places, there are top ten holiday parks around that area which have really nice cheap cabins.

Leigh! Near to Goat Island, Pakiri Beach, Matakana, and has it's own beautiful Matheson's Bay :)

My Dad and his wife have a B&B at Piha, they've even got a portacot for Dan if you need it. When are you wanting to go away. West Coast probably isn't much of a weekend away for you.

If I was up that way I'd go to Scandretts (sp?) regional park, there's three baches that can be hired and you basically get the place to yourself. Is about 10 mins from Snells Beach. Google Moonlight Bach (built by Mr Moon and Mr Light) - just gorgeous.

Auckland is so well served by those regional parks.

Does it have to be a bach? DH and I had a nice weekend away in Waiwera at a motel we booked on wotif.com . It was great, pools one day, wandering around Orewa the other, and had the restaurants at Orewa close enough as well.

I recommend Mangawhai and Mangawhai Heads. We got engaged there! There's a motel there that's reasonable and not yucky like motels can be... can't remember name of it. But it has an outlook over Mangawhai, the beach is 5mins away and there are great cafes around there where you can have breakfast lunch or dinner and it' s a lovely setting.

Thanks guys. I've just been completely unable to make a decision for some stupid reason! I've narrowed it down to a place at Omaha and one at Algies Bay. Just waiting to hear from them.
