I was thinking of getting DD a tricycle for her 2nd birthday, but a number of people have told me that balance bikes are better.

Anyone got any opinions on this? Also where is a good place to go to maybe try some out to see if DD likes them? (though i will probably ultimately end up getting something off Trade Me)

Lachie has a little trike and a balance bike - he LOVES his balance bike and it still amazes me how fast he can go on it. He loves going down hills. Seems to be really good for his balance and confidence. He will choose it everytime over the trike and I will get one for Tessa when she is older.

Most little kids find trikes quite hard to ride - the position of the peddles is quite difficult for them. At our crèche I have noticed that it is just the 3+ kids that are using them.

We bought Sophie a Mocka balance bike for her last birthday and it took her a couple of months to get it but she is very quick now and she loves it.

I agree with Jaycee - it took ages for ISla to get the hang of her little trike, but she could ride at daycare they had bigger kids type bikes with trainer wheels- but in small size and she oculd ride these at age 2, but the angle of the pedals of her trike ment she couldnt manage to ride it til she was much bigger!
