Our TV just died this afternoon and DH has told me to go out and get a new one. Anyone know any good deals anywhere? We don't get junk mail so have no idea where to go. I don't want anything bigger than a 37" as I find even that size too big but DH found 32" too small.

Ours is a Samsung that we got less than two years ago and I hate it so I won't be going with them again.

Dammit! I was about to sit and watch a DVD in peace and it fizzled and died!!!

Don't know where you are but JB HiFi often have really good deals on.

Dick smith often have cheap ones that are bulk ordered from Europe. They are a weird brand but we've got a smaller one for the bedroom and if you are looking for one on a budget they're a good option. Otherwise Harvey Norman will always do a deal on the sticker price.

Hey my hubby is a TV technician, his advice? Get it fixed! Samsung are great brands and are really great to deal with and usually come to the party quite nicely! A TV that young should not break down!

That would be my advice too... go back to where you got it from. They should help with getting it fixed, if not... maybe bring up the Consumer Guarantees Act.
TV's are definitely supposed to last longer than yours has.

Try and get it fixed if you can or if you have it under warranty, even if you can't find the paperwork they should be able to find your serial number/details from when or where you bought it Good luck and I hope it doesn't take too long to get it fixed/or replaced..

Yeah it was my dad that recommended this one to us. He has done a lot of design work for some big brands so he knows heaps about tvs and stereos and all that kind of stuff. And I have to credit Samsung as they are coming on Monday and have offered a temporary tv in the mean time if they have to take it away but we're just not happy with the tv itself anyway. We've had several Samsung items and for one reason or another we've never been impressed by them and yet some people swear by them.
I remembered a guy at JB HiFi who looked after us really well once before so I called and he said he will beat any deal I find so might just go to him. I had a quick look in a couple of stores this afternoon but I get fed up very quickly when I get followed around the store by a sales person talking at me instead of letting me look and ask questions.
Things with plugs, batteries and buttons just don't like me! First thing DH says to me was what did YOU do to it? Reeeeeaaal funny

Thanks for the advice

That's great news that you're getting a replacement in the interim. We're big SONY fans and all our tellies are Sony...just preference I guess plus I hear you about the sales reps...I cheat and research online for what we want/need, go in to the store and pick it out straightaway without listening to any sales pitch, takes me all of 10 minutes to get my purchase done...lol...

We got a 37" Panasonic which is really good. DH is very picky and we shopped around for ages before we decided on it. Very happy with it.

I hate stalker salesmen as well! Went in to Harvey Norman the other week looking for a TV for work, guy approached me so I said I was looking for minimum 42" and we had a budget of $1,500 - he took me straight to a 40" HD Ready for $1,499 even though their was a 50" Full HD on the wall for $1,389 - I said thank you very much, I think I'll keep looking and he followed me around the shop until I got fed up and left. It was so creepy having this guy 2 paces behind me, particularly as he was trying to pretend he wasn't following me. It honestly felt like I was being stalked. Yikes, vultures!!!

We got our Panasonic Viera Plasma from Harvey Norman and they went cheaper than an adertised price from somewhere else for us. Also gave us a discount on the other products we bought at the same time. The TV has been awesome and we dont have any regrets going with a Panasonic.

We went from  a 32 inch to a 55 and love the difference in size and clarity.
