My computer is systematically eating my files, each day I go in and there are more I can't open.
Can anyone recommend a decent computer tech place in Auckland?
Has anyone used Need a Nerd?

Try ringing the support line for whatever brand of computer you have first. Even it if it is out of warranty they still may be able to help (either for free or a fee).

The only one I know of is probably too far away - they are on Trafalgar St in Onehunga, they've done some work on our desktop and laptops.. found them reasonably priced and very good... and I can't remember their name

What error message comes up when you try to open up the file?
There is a good place called Outwest computers in Te atatu south. I know the people who work there so might be able to get you a discount.

Hubby recommends ETC computers- he goes to the one in New Lynn for parts etc, but there is one in Mt Eden too. He said they are cheap and very good.

Thanks erynolds - I'm in New Lynn so that would work.
1 problem is that the files have become corrupted and both IS at work and microsoft say there is no way they can be restored. :(
We also have periodic times where the keyboard stops working, and a lot of time the computer sounds like it's got a million processes going - is really loud, gets really hot and sometimes shuts itself down. I just want to make sure it's all OK.

Just asked DH and he's happy to have a look at it - I'll get him to email you that dropbox referral as well

Sounds like you have some help from Blondy, but if you get stuck, my DH runs his own PC Repair business (PC Repair Guy). He is mobile and can come to you.
His contact number is 021 073 9178 or you can PM me your details and I can get him to get in touch with you.
Good luck
