One my oldest friends is about to have her second baby and her brithday. She has been an amazing support to me, DD and DH even though she lives so far away.

I would like to get her and her family a few free meals on us something similiar, I'm sure I read about someone starting up a business offering these kind of services for new parents (and if why haven't they? Hmmm...maybe I should??). Does this ring a bell. They live in Herne Bay, Auckland.

I dunno bout a business that does it-but it'd be a wonderful idea!

Our church done meals for us for a week, it was WONDERFUL!!!! Made life so much easier. We usually had enough left over for lunch the next day also-which was brilliant as it meant I didn't have to think bout lunch (on the days DH was at work!)

Try BabyAngel, they offer the sort of thing you are probably after. I haven't tried them but it sounds good. I had a quick look and it does look like they have expanded out of Wellington

Bellyful is an organisation that provides meals for families with newborn babies, who have little family or social support.

This is what a friend sent me on it as she helps out:

Bellyful was founded by 4 mums who have all experienced how difficult it can be to have a new baby in the family. Many mums with new babies find that the most difficult time of the day is dinner time; especially if you have other children that need feeding!

Bellyful have meals that have been previously prepared and frozen and when called upon, one of our mums will hand deliver one of these meals. As we mums know, that meal can be a real sanity saver! All of the ingredients are donated by businesses or people in the Green Bay area community and meals are provided at no cost to those that receive them.

Who is Bellyful for?

Families with babies under 3 months old or who have little family or social support.

What’s the catch?

Isn’t it terrible that we wonder this? But we all think it, so let’s just get it out of the way now…..there isn’t one! We are just doing this because we want to make someone else’s life just a little bit easier.

What’s for dinner?

What we have in the freezer can vary from week to week, but the types of meals may include:

Shepherds Pie/Macaroni Cheese/Soup/Sausage Casserole & Mashed Potato

Our food is designed by Mums for families that may include pre-school food critics!

They are simple and wholesome meals.

Im not sure of the names - but there are heaps of companies in Auckland that do Meals on Wheels type food deliveries that are actually pretty decent and cost around $10 per meal, per person. If I was at work I could get details for you, but I wont be back till Tuesday - Ill ahve a look then

I think Bellyful is free, not sure as they run off donations.

MooCow I like what your church did think that's fantastic.

millymollymandy maybe you could get a few friends together & chip in for online groceries so you can get some pre made meals for her.

Churches and playcentres often have a drop off meal service for new Mums. There are plenty of places where you can buy ready made meals and a good range of frozen meals available from the supermarket.

eat unlimited have a good rep from people I know who have used them. The meals arrive snap chilled and don't need to be frozen if eaten within a certain time frame (I think it's 10 days??? foggy brain sorry).
Delivery nation wide and you can get quite a few meals in the one delivery thingy. They have some yummy sounding meals too. Can be upsized to a mega size for only $1 more per meal so if they are small eaters this would be cheap for two.

I think it was Baby Angel I saw...but lordy its expensive. I don't know if they would qualify for the more social support type ones, as will have family staying and they live a pretty comfortable extistence, but will be pushed for time like everyone else.
