As most of you know, Mercedes hasn't been growing so well, so we might end up being induced at 32 weeks. Twice this week when I have told people this they have said:
"Oh, you're so lucky - you get to have a short pregnancy!"
Yes, really lucky! If my girls are born then I will spend the next 6 weeks driving backwards and forwards from the hospital visiting them
Do people not actually think sometimes? Yes I am totally over being pregnant, and can't wait to meet my lil girls, but I'd like to bake them a while longer just the same!
Grrrrr! Sorry, vent over!

people often say stupid things before their brains can censor them. thats why I thank God for internet message boards where I can edit what I say!
Emma, I hesitate to ask - but what was your reply?

Maya i get the same thing when I explain my condition is likely to bring on bubs early - and it doesnt make it easier with people saying oh well at least they are fully formed....we would rather be able to have them bake a little longer....I know exactly how you feel...
I wish people would be a little more understanding sometimes....HUGS to you

Man people are stupid soemtimes! I suppose most people have no idea of the realities of premature babies... BTW Emma, my sis had her twins last year at 30 weeks, and altho they were in the NICU for a couple of months they are fine and dandy now. They are both walking and talking, one is a bit smaller than the other and got sick easily over winter, but they are fine in every other way.

they say things like that because when you say
"my baby isnt growing and they will have to be born early"
they dont know what to say so try to focus on something positive, even if it isnt really.
would you rather they said "oh no that is really bad, how will you cope, you poor thing."
it may be a stupid response, but they wouldnt have been able to think of a diff one at short notice prob.

This is a bit OT (well... kinda related), I was watching Cirque Rocks last night and saw that McDonalds has set up rooms for parents in the neo-natal part of the hospital. How absolutely cool is that???
Would you get to use one of those rooms if the twins come early Emma? I hope so.

Did you want to borrow my stapler to shove down thier throats? I don't need it now that I'm not at work!
Seriously though, some people can be so inconsiderate!! Maybe they really didn't realise the realities of prem babies....*sigh*
Big hugs to you!

Hehe Paws - might need that stapler because I was speechless - I didn't know what to say! The second one was by text message so I just didn't reply...
Nikki - Haven't seen the McD's things. Must look into it!
Thanks everyone for thinking of me!
And Deborah - I think you're right, they probably didn't know what to say, but still.... I mean they could have said nothing!

Grrrr, that must have been so infuriating chick I got the opposite when I was pregnant - everyone was constantly saying "god, you're so huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge". Like, hello!!!!! Did they think I hadn't noticed???? Comments like "is that just one baby in there, or is it a whole rugby team?" were so helpful, dontcha think??? Hope all is ok with your wee girls Emma. Sending big hugs to you

Pretty insensitive of them! I'm all for telling people you just don't think their joke is funny (like the rugby team comment - how stink, Clare!), or that they're being a Pollyanna and it's not the time for it. I hate it when you open up to someone about something really difficult and they immediately point out the silver lining in it all... sooo not the time to play that game!
