Hi ladies,
I'm meant to go in and have my Glucose Challenge this week but wasn't sure if I could eat before hand or not? I can't remember what I did last time so any memory refresh would be helpful

Is it the normal one that you just rock up for (the first one?) if so, you can eat beforehand but dont have anything to sugary or it will bump your reading up!

If its the second one, you need to book it and fast for 12 hours beforehand (they one you do if you fail the first one).

Thanks melnel! I might need to wait for that chocolate I ate at lunchtime to leave my bloodstream!

If its your first one you don't need to fast, however I recommend you avoid OJ..
I know myself and one other woman failed ours after having OJ for breakfast.

If it is the one hour glucose test they say you can eat beforehand. However my midwife says not to, as it so often skews the results and then you have to do the 3 hour one (which is a fasting one).
So I didn't eat, and my results were fine.

Grrrr, I just went to Labtests and ended up leaving because they needed me to stay for 1 hour..... I seem to remember that the last time I had the test done I was allowed to leave.

I have had both the polycose test and the glucose tolerance test.

With the polycose (the 1 hr test) I could eat before and had to wait an hour, but could go away and come back. I didn't eat before the tests because I didn't realise I could.

With the glucose tolerance test I was not allowed to eat from 9pm the previous night and had to stay at the test place for 2 hours without leaving.

Hope that helps.

You can totally leave and come back they just need to tell you the exact time you need to be back (they normally tell you 10 minutes beforehand to make sure you are back and they are free from other patients).

I went and watched DH and DS have lunch during mine
