Hi gemtwinkle

Welcome to Auckland

I don't know of any in Ponsonby, but a few of my friends travel into http://www.citymed.co.nz/ - Citymed from out West because they say it's fantastic.

ooh I hope others have recommendations because i'm looking to change doctors in the Ponsonby area!

There is the Ponsonby medical centre off ponsonby road. At first I wasn't too fond of them... the receptionist was fairly rude to me when I was 8 mins late for my appointment with the nurse for my daughter's 6 week immunisations (C'mon! She was 6 weeks!? I had to feed her before we left and unfortunately she fed a few minutes longer than I had anticipated) Then I could never get in to see the doctor I wanted.

So I changed to Freemans Bay medical centre on Wellington Street off Franklin Rd. Now THEY are horrible! Receptionists don't know what they're doing, make you wait at the desk while they talk about their weekend and what they have for lunch RIGHT INFRONT OF YOU!! and the doctor i've seen there twice doesn't make sense!? "So why have you actually brought her in?" AFTER I told her what was wrong with her!? So I may change back to ponsonby medical centre.

I use the Herne Bay medical centre and have always been happy with the Drs and the practice in general. All the Drs that I have seen there have been nice. I go to the upper practice but I dont think that makes a difference, Hope that helps :c)

Eek sounds like a bad experience at Freemans Bay. i have been going there for years and never had a problem. My Dr there is Christine Forster and she is nice, helpful and no nonsense.

If you can get in - go to Westmere Medical Centre. They are AWESOME!!! I have been with them for 12 years now and I LOVE LOVE LOVE them.

They have 2 awesome lady Drs - Nina & Jodie and they are both lovely. Nina is young and pretty cool and Jodie is a young-ish mum so great with kids etc. John is the practice owner and is quite old school but is absolutley fantastic with kids....my little boy BEGS to go and see him everytime he feels poorly!! They (the Drs) regularly ring me to see how  am getting on in my pregnancy and they are really aware and monitering me for signs of PND again - I think they rock!

I dont know if they are taking new patients - but its really worth trying as they really are just wonderful.

We're at the Ponsonby Medical Centre. They're nice enough I guess and I thought my GP in particular was awesome until once I was pregnant he told me I should see an obstetrician ('because it's my baby's LIFE at stake') even though medically there was no reason for me to do so. So I got a little bit put off. Having said that, I've been back for Alex's imms and they have been lovely.

Thanks heaps for all the recommendations everyone. Someone else also recommended Westmere Medical Centre so have now registered there. The receptionist was super friendly on the phone so fingers crossed the doctors are as friendly and good.
