I will be having an elective C-section (due to previous emergency one) and was wondering about milk coming in. Last time it took at least 4-5 days before I had anything worth talking about and the pain was just so horrendous with my DS trying to latch and suck desperately for milk (that wasn't really there)...and I believe that this negatively affected the overall success of our BF experience
I would love to avoid this next time so was wondering if there was anything that can be done to encourage milk to come in pre c-section/delivery....
Thanks!

I hand expressed in the shower for about 2 months pre-caesar, the heat from the water helped it come out a little easier, then the morning she arrived, i had some there ready and waiting... just as well as the wee sod went on a nursing strike on night 2!
You could also take supplements with you like milk-flo or fenugreek capsules, or make some lactation cookies and take them in with you as snacks for between meals. I didnt do any of that and plan on doing so this time as I wasnt able to keep my supply up much at all.

I had an emergency c-section with DS after about 6-8 hours of synto though, so some labour. I had milk within 36 hours and enough to feed 5 kids I reckon by 48 hours!
With DD (natural birth) it was more like 48 hours till my milk came in. I was much more shattered after this birth though than after the caesar (a very cruisy "emergency" after failure to progress), so maybe that made a difference? Friends that have had caesars under general or had very traumatic births seem to have found it takes longer for their milk to come in. Hopefully with an elective caesar this time, things will be easier for you. Sorry I don't know any tricks to speed up milk coming in.

I had an elective c-section for a breech baby. Milk came in fine after a couple of days. Had heaps of it, and no probs breastfeeding.
