Now that the sun has FINALLY come out, I tried to get DD wearing a sunhat the other day and it wasn't easy! It's really important to me that she gets good sun habits so one of the things I'd like to do is model sunsmart behaviour, which will be good for me to.

Trouble is, as a kid, my mum used to buy us the cheapest effective hats she could find and they were often so hideous and we would get teased when we wore them in public (but she'd force us to). So anyway, as a result, I loathe hats (none of my siblings wear hats anymore) and I don't know where to start to find nice ones.

So, any recommendations for stylish (and effective) sunhats for mums, dads and/or kids would be awesome!

for kids you can get the dorothy the dinosaur ones and themed ones like their fav characters. they often have the ugly mullet flap down the back but they are what I have seen tons of preschoolers wearing. for mums i quite like the wide brimmed woven hats(but that is just me) and depends what you are doing as to whether or not they will stay on. otherwise caps with sunscreen are better than nothing for both mum and dad. dh wears a cowboy had around which he thinks is cool (its so embarrassing cause he is such a city boy and has never ridden a horse).

if you are handy with a sewing machine... http://www.scribd.com/doc/30747772/Prudent-Baby-Sun-Cap - this is a good (free) pattern. and if you get DD to pick out the fabric you use, then she might be more willing to wear it if she picked it all?

or you could take her to a store and pick out 5 and let her pick from them (then she is still choosing, but you can monitor sun safety and price?)

Pumpkin patch have some nice ones for your DD. I also just got a nice one from Baby factory for DS.

Can't help with adult ones though. I always have trouble finding one for myself.

I saw some nice ones in JK yesterday (for boys and girls)

Postie + has really boring plain coloured ones (well I thought they were boring).

I got my hat earlier in the year from a pharmacy. It is a bucket style hat that provides really good shade all around and is camo print fabric (not very girlie but then that's not really my style). I've found quite a few pharmacies have a nice range of hats that are a bit different. Have a shop around.

Glassons is usually pretty good for hats- now is about the right time to go looking before they sell out

Clara's last couple came from Country Road - they do online shopping now too.

Babystar had some cute ones last year - but I notice their summer hats aren't online yet.

This year I'll probably get her an Oobi baby hat - nice and bright, with a good wide brim. I'm not sure what your local stockist would be though? (here I'd go to Pop Pop Soda Pop or Baby's Room) Only online stockist I can think of: http://www.babysgotstyle.com.au/index.php/product/accessories/hats-scarfs.html - Baby's got style

ETA: All kids hats sorry! I have a big head so struggle to find ones to fit me , and just wear a sun visor if I have to ... maybe try a surf shop?

Farmers have a range of hats for adults. Can't remember if they are particularly stylish or not tho. I have got a few for me from Postie Plus too. And check out The Warehouse. Good luck, I hate looking for hats
