So...I'm starting to think about baby number 2 and may start trying early next year (gulp). All going well DS will be 2 when the 2nd one arrives.
I had a pretty good pregnancy, apart from vomiting for the first 19 weeks - but I had a pretty crap birth, induction, forceps, epesiostimy etc I know some people have much worse, but to be honest I thought the whole thing was pretty horrific - and I could never imagine wanting to do it EVER again. Here I am 10 months later considering it   
Anyway....my question is...How did you find labour 2nd time around? Was it quicker? Easier? (I ask hopefully..!!) And also how did you find those first few weeks at home? Was it easier knowing what to expect? Was coping with 2 easier or harder than you expected it to be?? Thanks in advance ladies  ------------- http://lilypie.com">

Labour - half the time. 10hrs with Daniel, 5 with Alex but he was in a better position. Pain was more intense but that was probably because it was twice as fast but still only had gas.
At home - so far I'm not finding it bad at all. We are making Alex fit into Daniels routine. I'm also going to bed at the kids bed time (7ish) and relaxing/resting/sleeping whatever I feel like. That has ensured during the day I'm actually not tired at all. |

Labour was so much easier, shorter (3.5hrs from first niggle down to less than an hour from first niggle) and pushing was over and done within two contractions. I found my recovery much quicker too.
First few weeks at home were probably the same with both of my girls, although i did feel more confident with the youngest one. Coping with two was a lot busier than i expected. When the baby slept i still had to entertain the older one. Also for the first couple of weeks, my eldest played up a bit as she wasn't centre of attention anymore but that settled down quickly. -------------

I'll be watching this with interest. Everyone I've spoken to (well not everyone but YGWIM) has said that pregnancy is soooooo much harder the second time around etc. It's putting the willies up me (no pun intended) and I'm a bit nervous about the next one.

| I actually found my pregnancy easier in many ways 2nd time round. I was lighter and fitter so my body coped better. MS was still ass though |

Preg was harder, labour was easier, having 2 was sooo much harder than i thought but i had very easy baby first time and very difficult baby second time. Other friends who had difficult baby first and easy second have said they don't even notice a difference. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

PG has been different - harder cos you can't rest and you're toddler-wrangling, but I feel in a much better space at 37 weeks with this one than I did at 37 weeks with DS. It's also been completely different in terms of MS/nausea ...
Birth - will get back to you in a few weeks! It had better be better than last time! Friends with 2 (and a 3rd on the way) said the worst transition was from 0 to 1. I've heard people say 2 to 3 is harder than 1 to 2. At least with going from 1 to 2, there is still a good adult:child ratio. ------------- Mum to two wee boys |

I think it depends on the person.
DS2 was induced & I was in labour in hospital for over 12hrs. It took over 2 yrs to fall pg with him. DS1 was nearly 4 when he was born so it was manageable. I fell pg with DS3 7mths after DS2 was born, he was induced prior to term & had 2 failed inductions & emergency c/sect at 1.40am where they had to call a surgeon in. I was in labour for about 14hrs. I had hard pregnancy's, hard labours x3....but the end result was so worth it & I would do it again in a heart beat.

That's so true Jazzy - at the end of the day, no matter how hard it was, you would do it again to have that gorgeous wee person in your life

I had 2 weeks of false labour with Ty and was 4cms dilated for 4 days, which was a bit arsey , BUT once I was in labour, very quick, I went in to the birthing unit at 3:30am and I was 7cms dilated, he was out completely at 4:44am, so not long at all !
C's birth (baby number one ) was a 24 hour labour, so yup, in my case the second was definetly quicker ! And I found my recovery quicker too -------------

Oh and as for pregnancy 2nd time round, I had more aches and pain....with C I was 19 tho and had more energy.
however this time, baby number 3....I so far haven't had much uncomfortableness at all, perhaps this will be the nicest of my children  -------------

I have 4 years between each of my kids.
Pregnancy got worse with each subsequent child MS wise for me. First child was induced, ventouse, episitotomy and baby in nicu for 3 days. Labour for 2nd was a breeze natural other than a bit of gas. I did have a PPH though. 3rd child was same as number 2 but prosterior so a bit more uncomfortable but compared to number 1 it was still excellent. |

My first pregnancy was a breeze and looking back Jackson was a very easy baby (he just didn't want to eat which created all our stress).
This time round pregnancy has been a lot harder in many ways. I am finding it tough at the tail end as I am very tired and getting bad reflux. I am hoping birth is easier. Jackson's birth wasn't terrible, just very long and tiring. Hoping to have a quick one this time... but not so quick that I don't make it to the hospital! I am very nervous about the birth, cos I remember how painful it was first time. They say you forget, but that is bollocks! |

pg wwas harder but my 2 were 12 months apart so i was still carrying my son every at full term. i also busted my pelvis running 7km at round the bays when i was 24 weeks.
labour was easier. i was home 2.5 hours having him and drove myself home. woke up the next morning in amazement cos i had no muscle pain or sore legs/PF/bum muscles or anything. totally didnt feel like i had had a baby. After pain were a killer 2nd time though. i was dosed up on vaultaren(sp) -------------

i wanted an elective c section but went into labour and CWH made me wait cause 'there should be heaps of time but i labour fast so nearly had another emergency hmmm.. anyway .. i found both labours awful but the second one was better....:) first few weeks were hard.. i hadnt really thought beyond the birth and found it hard with DH not being able to visit so much and my first time away from my two year old(2 yrs 4 days between my two) definitely easier knowing what to expect but fell into the trap of expecting them to act the same..lol..nope.. I have found having two hard.. harder than i thought it would be and its number one needing lots of attention and having number two need it too and also still being up every night.. though number one did want dad at night from 6 months preg so that helped:) having said all that.. (and my DH had an operation 2 weeks after my c section!) i love it.. my two are awesome together and although it's way harder than i thought it's also awesome.. my pregnancy was harder though i had more problems with number one(pre PE etc) just so much more tired and had low BP instead of high and that wasnt great..and i felt drained the entire time.. lol so yeah for me preg and birth arent very great..but the rewards at the end and seeing my two interact has been worth it. ------------- Mum to two amazing boys! |

I found it just different. Both presentations are tough but I found the prosterior baby was more pain in my back. Couldn't get comfy in labour not that it is ever comfy but I couldn't stay in one position long and needed to move and fidget. |

I got induced with both DD and also DS so mine was pretty horrific (intense is probably the right word). Pregnancy was a breeze with DD until like 34 weeks and then I started getting symptoms of pre-eclempsia and then got induced on due date.
With DS, I had 2 days of contractions on and off and they were very intense. Didn't get any sleep so got induced because if they left me I would be too exhausted to push and would end up with a C-section and that was my last resort. Both labours were quick but DS one was about 2 hrs or so quicker than DD but we had complications after DS was born as he stopped breathing so ended up being monitored for 2 hrs. Oh and the first few weeks after was actually pretty good as DD was at school the 1st week so it was good timing actually. The only thing was when DS woke up every hour or so .. when we have had 8 - 9 hrs sleep at night.. that was a shocker to our system..lol ------------- http://lilyslim.com">  http://lilypie.com">

First time pregnancy was a breeze.
Second time was smooth sailing - but physically harder having a toddler to run around after. Labout first time was 7 hours (from established labour). Second time was 74 minutes. Both babies were posterior. First turned before I started pushing, and was easy to get out with the help of gas and pethidene. Second baby stayed posterior and I only had gas so it hurt like a hurty thing! I've found #2 a breeze. I'm lucky to have a very settled baby (has been sleeping through the night since 9 weeks) and an independent toddler who is quite happy amusing herself while I'm stuck on the couch feeding. my pregnancy with Emily was awful, i was so sick with ms needing fluids replaced every few days and 7 tablets a day right up untill she was born the labour was long as she got stuck so 26hrs with just over an hour of pushing!
2nd time Charlie was easier in every way, i was sick up untill 14 weeks but no where near as bad i did get a little tired near the end which was a bit hard with Emily having tons of energy and no day sleeps  but Dh was great. The labour was speedy fast! From the mw coming at 9am and being 4cm to 1.09 being fully dilated waters breaking 1.10 and Charlie shooting out with 2 pushes at 1.12pm! She wasnt breathing due to being born so fast which was amzingly stressful but she was resusitated (thank god) and she didnt feed well for the first 3 days because she had gunk in her lungs.
Having 2 at homefor the first few weeks was fine Dh had 2 weeks off once he went back to work it was a little different and a bit of a mission trying to get ready to go anywhere but now we have it sussed. |
