Would you recommend them? Are they worth the $300+ something you pay for them?
My bday is coming up, so thought i could ask for Rodney Wayne vouchers to buy myself a pair.
How long does it take to straighten your hair with them? I currently have just an average pair and it takes me aaaaages.
I have medium length and while my hair is thin, there's a lot of it.
Your thoughts please

I bought my first GHD's nearly 4 years ago.... they started crapping out last year (the wires started playing up) so I rung GHD and they said I could buy a brand new pair for only $150! I have SO much hair although the strands are thin, and it doesn't take that long maybe 10 mins to get it straight. I love them.

Love mine! They were amongst the first things I took when we had to leave our house after the quake! My hair would be horrible without them. My hair is quite thick so it takes about 20 mins.

I love mine and use them alot. I wouldn't/couldn't be without them now and could not would not use any other straighteners - so yes they are worth it - my last pair I had for 3 years and still would be using them but I loved the persious style so sold my old pair and brought them...
As for time - I don't spend more than 10 minutes straightening my hair - i have shoulder length hair so depends on your hair type/style and length.

I've tested one and thought they would be worth it, still don't have one due to cost... I have a normal straightener - Remmington and that takes me about 10-15 mins to straighten my fine but thick wavy/curly hair!

Another slightly cheaper option is a 'silver bullet' hair straighteners.. my hair dresser uses them and rates them about the same as GHDs... and bout $180 new so nicer on your pocket

Really? thats weird, my friend ( a hairdresser) uses them on all her clients and she has clients with all sorts of hair , all sorts of lengths and it only takes about 10 mins max...I wonder if your pair might be faulty ....

That is weird, I have thick as and really really curly, waist length hair and my GHDs do my hair in no time at all... I agree they might be faulty cos I've never heard of them not working for anyone.... Ive tried heaps of others and GHDs are a millon times better than any Ive tried...

I LOOOOOOOOOOVE mine, I held out getting them for ages and then DH gave me them for Christmas last year and I'm in love.
I hardly ever use to straighten my hair before I got them - but now I do it all the time! I LOVE them, I have quite thick hair and its quite long and it takes me about 10 minutes - if that!
They are also awesome to curl your hair too!
Not only does it take way less time, but it also gives your hair a much nicer finish, I always can tell if someone has done their hair with GHDs or not!
DO IT!

Yeah do shop around. I bought mine years ago from a UK website - and I imagine that they're even cheaper now that the NZ dollar is so strong against the pound.
As everyone has said, they work great, even on thick wavy hair like mine ... they do really damage your hair, but everything in moderation!

Love em. Never be with out them. I'm upgrading at xmas just for looks nothing wrong with the ones I have now I just want the pretty white/pink ones.
One salon here has the black ones for $279 i think so def look around coz I think now the coloured ones are around the black ones are cheaper.
Renee, that's very strange about yours. My friend has an afro like fluffy noodles and I got hers done in about 15min I think..Perhaps you need a new pair

Dp and I were just in the UK and got some for his mum and they are 99 pounds there (Which works out to about $220) I'd recommend checking out a UK website like annak said!

agree with Lilltemiss- dont buy them off trademe , my mate bougth some really cool looking purple ones recently off trademe brand new for only slightly less than what they are in the shops and turns out they are fake , Aparantly they all have a unique code or something (according to her) and when she put the code in ( im guessing into a website) it turned out they were fake . they dont work anywhere near as well as my 3+year old ones so they are definatly fake .

I bought some of trade me years ago so I imagine before all the fakes started floating round and seriously they work a mint! I have thin but alot of curly curly hair and they are the only things that straighten it.
I love my GHD! My bestfriend has thick hair and alot of and she straightens hers with her straightner she used mine to straighten it for a wedding and it took her 10mins and it looked so good she was surprised lol

Or if you do want to buy them on Trademe ask for the sticker number and then ring GHD and ask them if it is real or not :)

Definitely worth it! My old gym used to have 2 pairs in the changing rooms and it was definitely incentive to go to the gym, coz I'd have nice straight hair afterwards. I've never been able to justify buying a pair because my hair straightens fine with a cheapo pair, but the GHD does do a much better (and faster) job.

I love mine, I have pretty straight hair anyway and just use them to get the kinks out. I use them heaps to curl my hair when I'm going out, it's soooo much better than a curling iron!

do they keep it straight? I have curly hair but when I straighten in (with non-GHD) it starts going curly again after about an hour so i dont do it because i end up looking like a dork with half straigtened hair

my hairdresser swears the plain black matt ghds are better than the coloured. she said she got a pink pair from the pink wash and she was gutted as they weren't as good as the original pair she'd given her little sister

No it definitely keeps it straight if you want I can post pics? hehe. Mine is ringlets and I straightened it two days ago and aside from the back curling abit by the nape of my neck because I got hot in my sleep its still straight

I got my second pair off TM (DF stood on my first ones and snapped them) - but the woman I got them from included the salon receipt so I know they're genuine... but I'd be sceptical about all the new cheap ones on there...

I bought mine in 2005 and they're still going strong. When I use them in NZ I can do my hair in 10 minutes (and I'm unco at girly stuff lol) and it will stay straight for at least 3-4 days. I have longer than shoulder length curly hair, it's fine but there's a LOT of it.
Here in 100% humidity it takes a little longer (and a lot of aircon) but they still work and my hair will stay straight IF I'm in aircon. Not if I'm out in the heat all day. Boo.
Definitely recommend them though!!

Another fan here. Actually, I bought a new pair this morning & they were $279 (black ones). They had pretty white/pink ones & green ones but they were a lot more (around $350 I think). Same straighteners, just different colour. My last pair lasted around 4 years & while they were still pretty good they were starting to not do as good a job as they should.
I couldn't live without mine. While my hair isn't curly as such, it is thick & does these annoying little flicks so it looks a lot better when it's straight.

I spoke to my hairdresser yesterday as I saw they have silver bullets in their salon & she said they are much of a muchness but silver bullet are better in that you can vary the heat on them. She said GHD can burn your hair.
