I'm sure there'll be old posts that can help but the search function seems to be broken?

I go back to work in a few weeks and my DS will be starting daycare/in-home care. For the last 2 or 3 weeks we've been trying to get him to accept a bottle but its not working. Has anyone got advice?

We've spent more than we can afford trying different bottles and teats (Pigeon peristaltic, Mam, Tommee Tippee closer to nature, tommee tippee orthodontic and tommee tippee anti-colic).

We've tried having DH give him the bottle. We've tried walking and feeding. We've tried doing a sneaky switch during breastfeeding. We've tried EBM and formula. We've tried cup and syringe feeding.

I dont have a job that allows me to come back & feed during the day.

Is there anything we havent tried that may work? Please help!

its not something that i would say easily and only as a last resort but maybe if it gets to it dont cave in. Eventually bubs is gonna get hungry enough to eat something. i know thats not popular but if things dont improve soon you may not end up with a choice but if you do it now at least lots of cuddles and stuff can be given as opposed to having to go down the hard road when you start work and not being around to offer him lots of cuddles if he isnt eating if that makes sense

Having a giggle. The karitane nurse said that your kids will make liars of you...

After posting this I left him with DH while I bathed, came back and decided to give it another try and can you believe he took it? He drank 100ml's and is now fast asleep.

Going to try again tomorrow at the same time and hope he takes it again!

good idea starting few weeks before you go back now you can just keep at it making it routine.

good luck for tomorrow

What great news!

I also did lots of tries beforehand with DS when I had to go back to work, and he consistently refused the bottle. I tried with me in the room, me out of the house, with DH giving the bottle, with Nana giving the bottle, DS sitting up, lying down -- nothing worked.

I went off to work on the first day really worried about my little boy, who was upset that day and waited for me to come home, but on the second day, he was drinking the bottle like a pro and had four feeds.

So try not to worry too much -- I'm sure it will all work out.

He refused again last night so its a bit hit and miss but at least I know he can and will take it when needed... we'll keep trying once a day until he takes the bottle consistently
