DD has been recently weaned from exclusive Bfding to Neocate formula.

Her poos are the (I'm told) standard black/green/grey colour for a neocate fed baby and very liquid (ie would not be contained my a liner).

Previously she has been full time in cloth nappies, currently though I am using sposies as I am worried that the poo will stain her itti stash.

Does anyone have any experience with this? It's such a dark colour - does it stain?

Thanks

We're on neocate - have been since about 3 months old where we switched from BFing.

I actually found her poo firmed up, and she still struggles with constipation from time to time. The colour certainly isnt nice, and beware of the smell. Think rotorua sulphur concentrate!

For nappies - occasionally i need to throw a nappy in for a second wash (the times i forget to pop in a flushable liner) But most the time, even if it doesnt look good (well actually its all i know LOL) the sun does its usual magic.

sorry by the way if any of that was TMI

I didn't find it to be an issue. Nothing that sunlight didn't get out and I didn't use liners. They are not as dark once they are on solids (I'm assuming your baby isn't as they are dark and runny).
If you are worried you could try using some cloth liners in the sposie as a test maybe.
We had constipation issues before going on neocate so not sure if it normally makes things runny. For us he did get runnier but that was a good thing.

Yeah the smell is awful isn't it, and the neocate pukes It does get better with more solids/less milk.

Thanks Ladies.

I hear you on the smell!

I am so over runny poo nappies. I had hoped they would firm up with neocate, but alas no! Unfortunately we will have to put up with them for a while longer. DD is nearly 18months and not on solids and won't be for at least 3-6months... sigh...

We are using cloth full time & neocate & never every had a problem with stains mind you we do feed a few food items as well.

how long has she been on neocate? It might be taking her system a little bit to heal? Also she might not be tolerating the strength you are making it at? Cooper is on 7 scoops to the 170ml as he doesn't tolerate 8 scoops. Maybe drop back one scoop & see how she goes.

Also it might be worthwhile joining the yahoo neocatekids chat group. Some awesome backup knowlegde there. That is how I got onto finding the tolerance level for my boy.

Thanks Kel

We have only been on neocate for about 3 weeks.

I have a feeling it is not agreeing with her 100%, but cannot drop the strength as we are on a specific plan to help her put on weight and she is struggling to keep down the current volume she is getting.

Good to hear that you haven't had a problem with stains.

Susan, you just stick an extra bottle into the day. My boy was well underweight & initially started on 8? bottles a day. He also started off a half strength to wean him onto it.

I think you'd find the support group really helpful. mailto:NeocateKids-subscribe@yahoogroups.com - Neocate kids email group subscribe

When we started we had a goal to get him to drink 32 scoops a day which worked out specific to the weight he should be at, I just had to put those scoops across a certain amount of bottles during the day. Once he was fully on it and starting to feel better he starting really sucking back the bottles during the day & I stopped having the issue of getting it into him.

This is the message I got from a support person on that group. 9.7kg boy he should be getting a minimum of 3300kJ per day. If you look at the can and divide 3300 by the number KJ per scoop you will get the number of scoops you need. For catch up growth, he would want more than that. At 50th percentile weight, he would need 4000kJ per day at that age
