I'm 40 weeks tomorrow and have absolutely no signs of baby coming. I have had the odd cramp in the last few weeks but nothing to write home about. No show, no loose bowel motions, no nothing.

Just wondering if anyone here has gone into labour without any pre labour signs (clutching at straws here as going slightly mad).

It depends on what would fall under your personal definition of 'signs' ?

My mum had no signs - that she noticed, my dad just noticed she was slightly quieter than usual and realised she must be in labour (has 4 other babies to another woman) and by the time she got to hospital she was almost fully dilated, her waters broke there and it was time to push after 20 mins.

But she didn't notice contractions or anything. Though we both have high pain thresholds!

But agree with Hippy, depends what you classify signs as...

I didn't have any signs labour was about to start until my waters broke at 9 and then it was all on, although 4 hours before I had some thick snot but thought it was just like all the other discharge - nothing!

I never had a show or any other signs, and my waters never broke of their own accord. Contractions just started one morning, however, I had a looong labour

I didnt really have any signs of going into labour, with my first the first thing i knew i was in labour was my waters broke, had a huge show and contractions started within 30mins and were around 2.5mins apart, had her 3 hrs later.

With my second, again no prelabour, just started getting contractions around 2mins apart quite tame ones, went to hospital and was 4cm then was holding her 8mins later, all up an hour from that first weak contraction.

I have heard of people who get a checkup at a regular appointment and are revealed to be 4 or 5cm dialated already so i guess so! As well as people who didnt have any signs at the time, but when they look back they were feeling 'off' or whatever, they just didnt notice at the time. Am curious to see what people with babies say!

by signs I mean a show, cramps, loose bowel movements etc, the things they tell you to expect prior to going into labour.

With my second child I had none of the usual signs at all.
I was feeling tired and heavy the night before but that is not unusual at 39 weeks pregnant!
I had DS #1 the next night.

My mother had no signs with her first, she went to church with back pain, when it got unbearable they went to hospital to "check it out" and 1/2 an hour later my big brother was born.

I can't say for myself as I was induced but prior to that I had no signs whatsoever (and left to herself I think she was about a week away from coming out)

I had the following:

Loss of Mucous plug (10 days before I went into labour), loose bowel movements and the odd bit of cramping but nothing to make me think this was it, just the usual cramping you get during pregnancy.

Then at 38 weeks my waters broke spontaneously and contractions started 40 minutes later. Had my bloody show when I needed to start pushing. I only know because I saw it when I had the first urge to push as I was up walking to the shower.

I am in the opposite situation. I have been having 'signs' for the last 3 days. Loose bowel movements, cramps, the odd contraction, either extreme nesting, or extreme tiredness....and no labour.

So I don't think they necessarily mean that labour is about to start, or that you need pre-labour signs before labour begins. I think every person and labour is probably different.

Don't worry about it, I am sure your bubs will be here soon :)

I had nothing either, went to bed at around midnight, lay down and got a whopping big contraction, and then they just kept coming, didnt have a show till about an hour before T arrived, and waters didnt break until just before he came out (7 hours after that first contraction - so u might be lucky and get a quick labour )

I had no signs at all - I thought he was never going to come out until 40+6, I lost my mucus plug first thing in the morning then nothing all day until 8.30pm that night when my first contraction started and carried on all through the night and he was born at 3.50pm the next day.

I was waiting for the loose bowel movements, cramps, waters breaking etc but they just didn't happen!

I don't remember my waters breaking but apparently they did! Had tiny bits of show but nothing that I considered a definite pre-labour sign. None of the other so-called signs either. Then had my first proper contraction and knew it was all on! DD was born about seven hours later.

I was actually one of those people -- I hadn't felt anything - went in for a check-up at 40+2, was already 3cm dilated. I got strapped to the machine and was apparently having contractions every 20 minutes, none of which I felt!

Labour "proper" started 4 days later, and only took 3 1/2 hours until transition, then an hour pushing.

I guess all the unfelt contractions had been working away for days!

Has your LMC hooked you up to one of those machines to see what's going on?

Same - went in to be induced and was already 3cm dilated. But nothing happened so I was still induced (10 days overdue).

I had had a few bits of mucous plug (coming away in pieces ) the few days before but felt absolutely nothing (apart from annoyance about the fact that I was obviously going to be pregnant FOREVER lol).

I had no signs and never had any BH's. Got my first contraction at about 1am out of nowhere, got to hospital just before 6am 10cm dilated with no show and waters didnt brea naturally.
I thought it was really depressing having no signs so am glad in happened kindof quickly.
Good luck!

Yeah labour surprised me with the second one, I was expecting BH's as I had with #1 but never got them. Only got 3 random tightenings, two were around wise & one was downwise, which I though ohh that's weird, & then nothing til waters broke in bed that night. Wasn't uncomfortable or anything. Baby born 5 hours later.

Chances are stuff is happening but it's not ouchy or uncomfortable to you so you don't notice.

I had absolutely no sign and before I knew it was 7cm dilated and my boy was here a few hours later. I had been uncomfy that day but nothing to complain about and was totally shocked when I went to loo and noticed that I had some blood on paper which turned out to be my plug.
