Hi,
I am thinking of attempting to make my own fitted nappies.I have found two patterns which seem popular, Ottobre & Wee Weka.
For those who have made their own naps would you recommend either one of these, or do you have another pattern you prefer?
I would like to use these from newborn so realise I may have to play with sizing, a friend suggested altering the pattern based on a disposable. Alternatively I may just use flats/prefolds until bebe fits these nappies.
Thanks

I have used the wee weka pattern, made the nappies when Jack was about 1 and they were great.
Have to say that with Ben is preferred using prefolds when he was little, started using pockets (homemade) when he was about 12wks I think. The prefolds weren't as bulky on him

Hi I use the wee weka patterns for newborn and the small/medium one. I made two of the medium/large but personally didn't like those ones as I prefer a single row of snaps rather than a double row, plus they are quite wide in the crotch. So for large I use the Paddy Pants pattern which suits my daughter well.
The newborn pattern says it fits up to 8lbs but fit my friend's daughter up till 10lbs (I didn't make any till my daughter was 8months so didn't get to try them on her - have made several newborn ones for the next bubba though)
To make it cheaper, I just use nylon as the waterproof layer in the newborn nappies seeing as they won't fit as long, with a layer of cute polar fleece over top for added protection/cuteness. Nylon doesn't last as long as PUL (got maybe 4 months out of the first nylon nappies I made for my daughter before they stopped being waterproof, which is plenty of time for the newborn ones). You can make about 8 nappies out of 1metre of fabric.
I use PUL and minky for the bigger sizes though
Sorry for the essay lol, I'm a wee bit obsessed with making nappies will upload some pics of the different wee weka sizes for you so you can see what they look like...

most of DD's large nappies are in the wash, will take a pic of them later when they're dry. Hope this helps

Thanks both of you for your comments and pics. It seems my first attempt will be the Wee Weka naps and will see how I go from there. I especially like the idea of putting a cute outer layer for the pocket nappies. The cuteness factor is a big drawcard for me.

Ha, I made my nappies, I used new conceptions poo pockets which was an all in one but just changed it to a pocket nappy. It was good as it was in three sizes tho of course that meant loads of sewing. Found them really good tho they leaked a bit when DS was little in the first size, coz his legs were not very chubs.
I got heaps of cute material from an aussie place, haven't found anywhere in nz that has loads of cuteness material...there was one place but it closed down.

DS has been in Wee wekas since he was 2 months. They work brillantly and he has the cutest patterns. He's 18mths now (altho a skinny minny) and there's still plenty of room left in them.
They were quite easy to make too.
