Hi folks,

Did anyone in the Wellington area use MATPRO to find a midwife?
And how long did it take for them to put you in contact with someone?

It can get a bit frustrating looking for a m/w – at least I found that to be the case here in Auckland. I found it terribly unprofessional that none would return messages – maybe because I was leaving my mobile only but still! Overall I have been left with a very sour taste in my mouth by independent m/w. I have ended up going with a m/w under Akl Hospital and am much happier.

Good luck and my advice – just keep ringing. When I first started calling them, I assumed none called back as I was too early along yet (5 wks). But when I took a day off work and was calling them at 11 wks – they were all already booked!!! If they had had the courtesy to call me back the first time around that would not have been the case!!! (OK vent over )

Just keep ringing until you get someone on the phone to talk to.

Yeah, I started ringing at 5 weeks too. Up to 8 weeks now, so not quite as bad, but still... and I've given ALL my numbers, and ALL have answerphones, so really no excuse.

I've looked up a couple of other people to call directly, so will see how they go.

It's hard to ring during normal office hours though when I'm at work, and work doesn't know yet...

Oh well, thanks for the tips, and good to know I'm not alone in being ignored!!

where in wellington are you...i can recommend a good midwife service in lower hutt, but they are more if you are wanting a natural birth without any pain intervention. (in saying that i had a csection,) but they are excellent

I actually live in Lower Hutt, Kazzle, so that would be great.
I'm not 100% sure about the no pain intervention though...
I quite like the idea of a natural birth, but honestly don't know what to expect. Couldn't hurt to talk to them though, I guess.

If anyone else happens to have recommendations for midwives in Lower Hutt, I'd really appreciate it!
