Han pretty much eats whatever we do now, maybe Mickey could too? Some of her favourites are mince and pasta (I boil the mince up with a Oxtail soup mix and lots of veges), fish fingers, those Aria farm meat chip things, or she just has a whole lots of veges roughly mashed together.

yea i've tried giving mikey what we eat but he still chokes and throws up if there's any lumps, it's so annoying. i need to buy one of those mini-blender things, what are they called? that way i could just blend up what we're having for him. at the moment i have to make him things that are easy to mash.

The choking thing will stick around until they learn to work through it. i hated it but just had to persevere!
To start with chunkier things I used to grate carrot and courgette and saute in a little bit of butter and garlic. It was soooo gooooood!
Han also loved to eat cooked spinach and brocolli. Weird child. I'd just give her a pile on her tray and she'd go nuts with it!

I used to make spinach and feta omlettes for Ella.. those were a favourite and she had one at least once a week. Can't remember much else of what she ate then!

Taine pretty much eats anything, but I often make him vege and fruit combos...carrots/parsnips/apple, Kumara/pear, he alsao (thanks to his brother) enjoys little chicken sausages. Jake tends to feed him much like you would a small puppy.

I used to give Maya rice boiled with silverbeet. I would chop the silverbeet up really fine and then boil them together so the iron etc. from the silverbeet was absorbed into the rice. She loved it, and when she was a bit older I'd add a bit of chopped chicken or something as well.
She won't touch silverbeet now tho - her Daddy told her it's yucky...

Ok so i don't know anything much about this now but i thought that all they needed/wanted was boiled veges mashed up.
Oh why don't you go and check out what the baby food at the supermarket has in it??

They pretty much just have boiled mashed/pureed stuff for the first couple of months (4-6 or 7 mths) but after that they can start having more interesting stuff. PLunket and Watties put out a handy fridge guide to what foods you can introduce when.

Here's one that Zac loves:
Braised Beef with Carrot and Potato
1 tbsp olive oil
1 75g small red onion chopped
1 clove garlic crushed
150g lean braising steak cut into pieces
2 tbsp flour
150g carrots peeled and slived
1 medium potato peeled and sliced
250g kumara peeled and chopped
1 bay leaf
1 tbsp chopped parsley
350ml unsalted chicken stock
Heat the oil in a heavy based pan or casserole dish and saute the onion for 4 minues until softened.
Add the garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
Toss the steak in the flour and add to the pan and saute until sealed. Add the carrots, potato, sweet potato, bay leaf and parsley and pour over the stock.
Bring to the boil, cover with a lid and simmer for 1 hour 45 minutes or until the meat is very tender.
Blend in a food processor with as much cooking liquid as necessary to make the right consistency for your child.

Heat the oild in a pan and saute the leeks for 2 mintues.
Add the chicken and saute for another 2 minutes until sealed.
Tip in the carrots and pour over the stock. Bring to the boil, cover and simmer for about 20 minutes.
Add the peas and cook uncovered for 4 to 5 minues.

Stick mixers are around $12 at kmart or countdown.
I boil up any old veges i find and mix them up and then in a different pot boil up chopped up meat and then blend it up. I freeze it seperately so i can decide how much meat goes in. Jack loves it and its so easy.

For lunch or as a snack I make baby french toast.
30mls of breast milk or formula milk, one egg, mix it really well with a fork. Get two slices of white bread, cut the crusts off and soak in the mixture. Heat a little oil in frypan and fry the bread until golden on bothe sides (about 1-2 minutes each side?) Flynn loves it! I found he either likes really smooth foods or the complete opposite!! He loves finger food (won't eat any lumpy food unless mixed with a lot of custard!) so I cut a few veges into cubes like pumpkin, potato & kumera and boil. I also through in a stalk of brocoli and some cheerios. Then he just picks through what he wants while I eat my dinner in peace!!! He totally prefers to feed himself!

yeah, mikey loves feeding himself too but he'll only eat crackers. i try giving him other stuff like bits of fruit and veges and little bits of cheese and he just won't touch it but then if i give him a cracker he grabs it and stuffs it in his mouth. what a fussy baby!

I add chicken to this one as well:
Macaroni and Cauliflower Cheese
100g macaroni
400g cauliflower florets
200ml formula milk
20g plain flour
20g unsalted butter
freshly ground black pepper
2tbsp finely chopped parsley
100g cheddar cheese, grated
Bring a pan of water to the boil and cook the macaroni following the packet's instructions. Cook the cauliflower over the boiling water in a steamer until just tender. Drain and reserve.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
Mix together the milk, flour and butter in a pan. Heat gently, stirring with a whisk until you have a smooth sauce. Season with pepper then add the herbs and half the cheese. Stir until the cheese has melted, then stir in the macaroni.
Arrange the cauliflower in an ovenproof dish. Pour over the macaroni cheese and sprinkle over the remaining cheese. Bake for 15 minutes until golden brown.

20g plain flour

Preheat the oven to 180.
Mix together the milk, flour and butter in a saucepan. Heat gently, stirring constantly with a whisk, until you have a smooth sauce.

This one is for babies 10-12 months.
Fruity Moroccan Lamb Burgers
These burgers can be fried grilled or cooked in the oven. If you are grilling them, be careful not to let the edges burn. Giving babies any food that has very dark or crispy edges, such as chargrilled or barbecued food should be avoided.
1tbsp olive oil
3 spring onions finely chopped
pinch of ground coriander
500g lean minced lamb
50g dried dates, finely chopped
1tsp fresh coriander (optional)
If oven cooking, preheat the oven to 200.
Heat the oil in a heavy-based frying pan and fry the onions until just soft. Add the ground coriander and cook for a further 2 mins, stirring often.
Transfer the onions to a bowl, then add the lamb, dates and coriander and mix together well with your hands.
Mould the mixture into about 20 little burgers. Wrap in foil and freeze.

I am lucky to be in Saudi Arabia where I don't have to work and I have someone who does my housework and ironing so I have plenty of spare time!
Do you mean morning and afternoon tea or lunch as I've got some quick lunch recipes as well - the book I am using is called Baby Healthly Eating Planner by Amanda Grant. Not sure if you can get in NZ though.
Here's some morning and afternoon tea ideas - Cucumber sticks, apricots and cream cheese, steamed vege sticks, rice cakes, cut up fruit, yoghurt, bread sticks and hummus.

Yeah I was thinking of snacks AND lunch ideas! Its so great to get new ideas as I like being able to give Flynn a good range. Thanks for all your ideas and recipes!Did you used to live in NZ? I will look up that book. One little snack I make is marmite on white bread, with grated cheese sprinkled over it, then I cut into fingers before putting in the oven. I then bake at 130C for about 15-20 mins and put them in an air tight container. They are like a biscuit and Flynn loves them

Yeah for sure! I may go down to the local library and have a look, or even have a look at the bookstores in the mall. I see Michaels birthday is not long after Flynn's - same with Kim's boy Zac. Not long until we have to start planning first birthday parties/get togethers! Doesn't a year go SO FAST!!!

Yes, we use to live in Botany, Auckland - my DH has a contract in Saudi for 3 years and we've done nearly 1.5 years already. My Mum and step-children arrive tomorrow so we are sooooo looking forward to that. Mum and my step-son are staying for two weeks and my step-daughter is staying with us until the beginning of December when I will bring her back to NZ with Zac and I for our Xmas holidays.
Here's a few lunches that Zac likes...actually there hasn't been anything that I have given him that he doesn't like!!!!
Tortilla With Cream Cheese and Banana
(Makes 2 portions)
1 small ripe banana
1 soft flour tortilla
1tbsp full fat cream cheese
Mash the banana. Spread the flour tortilla with the cream cheese and the mashed banana. Roll the tortilla into a long sausage and then chop into small circles, approx 2 cm in diameter.
Fish Fingers with Carrot
2 small fish fingers
2 small carrots
Grill the fish fingers then cut into small pieces. Pell and chop the carrots, then put them into a pan with a little water and bring to the boil. Simmer until tender.
Avocado With Chopped Cooked Chicken
1 avocado (of which you will use 1/2)
1/2 smalled cooked chicken breast
2 fingers of fresh bread
Peel and halve the avocado. Mash the avocado and finely chop the cooked chicken breast, then mix the two together. Serve with bread.
Cheese and Onion Mash
1 medium potato or sweet potato
1tsp olive oil or unsaled butter
1/2 medium onion, finely chopped]
2tsp cheddar cheese, grated
Peel and chop potato and cook until just tender. Drain, then mas with approximately 2tbsp breast milk, formula or full-fat cows milk
Heat the olive oil or unsalted butter in a frying pan and saute the onion until it is really soft. Add the onion to the mash with the grated cheddar cheese and mix together.
