Ok im just wondering if everyone has to pay to see the dr for their baby? If not can anyone recommend one near johnsonville or newlands?

If you do how much do u pay per visit?

Today i went to see the nurses at my drs surgery and the treatment room dr put a drop of silver nitrate on ellas belly button to dry it up and i was charged $15 for 2 secs work its kinda a rip off really! What annoys me more is i was there 2 weeks ago for the same thing and was prescribed bactroban for it and there was no need coz its not infected and yet again i was charged $15 and $5 for the cream.

Hi Jezsika, just wanted to ask if you & Ella are registered at your doctor's? Just asked because I know that at my doctor, if I wasn't registered it would cost $30 per visit for my kids. I get charged $6 per visit & with my CS card even that gets wiped off. I was told only Well Child visits & immunisations are free. Everything else is subsidised by the government up to 5 years old though.

I think I read somewhere it depends on the doctor...they can charge additional if what they get from the govt doesn't cover it all...don't quote me on that though I could be wrong!!

yep they can add their own costs and each odc is different... which is sucky.. we have weekend and afterhours surcharges.. (which is always when the kids get sick) Although.. SOME doctors are nice and if you state that it is a follow up visit.. within a couple of days, and for the SAME problem that you saw them for originally(ie they were wrong or it has got worse) some will be not charge you.

Wow you dr is great not charging for under 12's. My dr only charges for after hours for under 6's and its only $5 which isn't much. Andrew has been having liquid nitrine on his foot and was told by the receptionist that it would be a $10 charge, he has had it done twice now and no charge.

If you go to http://www.wises.co.nz - www.wises.co.nz and search for Upland Road... it's at the cul de sac end of that. Penny Clifford is Han's doc, but Guy Jenna and Mark Stevenson are there too and are great too.

I used to go to the free one in Palmy, but found they were really crap - with diagnosis and with children - and with waiting. Why should I have to wait 45mins when I made an appointment!!!!! With two kiddies!!!

Anyway, i found one where I had to pay $10 for kids, but it was sooooo worth it.

we pay $16 for our doctor - i think it is worth it though, to get a good gp. Of course, i would prefer not to have to pay, but there is a gp shortage so i have to be lucky that our gp has known x since she was born.
The government subsidise for under 6, but if the surgerys cost is more than that, they will pass it on to you the consumer.

Our GP is free for Maya, they're part of the Procare PHO system. Prescriptions should also be free for Under 5's unless it is an unsubsidised medicine.

Also Jess you may find that some place will charge for extra services and the use of stuff, so could of the charge been from the silver nitrate? I know we were charged for a dressing for Andrew once.

That really sucks. I am happy to pay for an extra service for an under 6 but to pay to see the dr during normal business hours thats rude.

they have now tried to charge me $15 for a repeat prescription for ella or $25 to fax it through to a pharmacy here!!! $10 to fax!?!?!?! I have cory ringing the kelburn med centre and finding out how we go about transferring to penny clifford. Ellas due her jabs when we get back so ill go there. I need to talk to someone decent and not in a hurry about ellas reflux.

Nikki is she pretty patient?

Arghhhhh I have typed this three times.

Penny is great. She was my doctor up at the hosp when I was up there for the *couterminationgh*.
Mark treats me like a bit of a nut sometimes (not in a mean way) but that just reflects that he is accurate judge of character.

Their number is 9399551

I haven't had to deal with things like reflux with them, but everything else has been great. And it's just little things like the receptionist remembering who we are, the nurses being FANTASTIC when giving imms, and being able to call in the morning and get an appointment for Han that day (or that morning if I ask nicely).

Our Doc is also free and most meds are free too...however like Emma mentioned I paid $3 once for an unsub med.
