My new cookie cutters arrived yesterday and I am looking for a recipe for a roll out dough. Most of my books seem to have doughs that you slice into discs or runny doughs that you use spoonfuls of. Anybody got a tried and tested recipe for me?

Thanks in advance

Haven't got a tried and tested recipe, but didn't want to read and run.

I made some http://www.joyofbaking.com/Snickerdoodles.html - snickerdoodles , which are basically sugar cookies rolled in cinnamon. The same website also has a recipe for http://www.joyofbaking.com/Sugarcookies.html - sugar cookies , which is probably the kind of thing you're looking for.

My snickerdoodles came out really well. I put the dough in the fridge and it was quite solid, so I'm sure it would roll out great. The recipe is almost the same as the sugar cookie one (the sugar cookie one has a bit less baking powder so they're not as puffy), so I'm sure they would do the job

EDIT: Sorry, mucked up the link, it's better now.

Oooh the snickerdoodle recipe looks yum! I couldn't access the link to your sugar cookie recipe, though I have found one which is really similar to the recipe I use: http://www.freshinthekitchen.co.nz/recipes_show.asp?id=315 - Cut Out Sugar Cookies

Oops, I fixed the link. The snickerdoodles were really yum, but could have done with a bit more cinnamon!

I made the sugar cookies from MissShells link and they were good.  Not my most favourite biscuit ever (probably because I didn't make the chocolate version!!) but perfect for cookie cutters and icing.  We made trains, hammers, planes, and various animals and the recipe made loads of biscuits.
