I bought one of these http://www.trademe.co.nz/baby-gear/car-seats/capsules/auction-350477456.htm - LINK capsules off Trademe and it arrived today. I am a bit confused about it. I can't find a manufacture/expiry date anywhere on it. It says it fits babies up to 13kg in it. We tried DS in it and hes just under 11kg and is waaaay too big. And I'm a bit unsure about the ECE regulation thingy. There is no NZ Safety sticker on it anywhere. Any thoughts? Anyone else used them?

It is a forward facing seat from birth?????? no way......
The expiry date should be stamped into the plastic on the base somewhere. If it doesnt have a NZ safety sticker then it is not approved to be used in NZ- it may be using a standard recognised by NZ law, but it still has to pass our safety tests.
I personally would not use it, it sounds VERY dodgy to me. Plunket reccomends you rear face your baby untill they are one year old or 12kg, and longer if possible. Looking at the listing it looks like it is a cheap import, and the fact that a store that sells linen is selling car seats..... rather odd.

this is from trade me about listing car seats:
Child restraints must meet approved standards and be less than 10 years old. Child restraints certified for use in New Zealand will show an 'S' mark (New Zealand Standard NZS 1754), or a tick mark (Australian Standard AS 1754), or an 'E' mark (European Standard ECE 44).
And aethelia is right - if is is a forward facing seat then dont use it and send it straight back! Oh and report the seller to trade me.

Might pay to have a look at this site as there is a lot of info about child seats etc: http://childrestraints.co.nz/carseat.php - NZ Child Restraints

Thanks ladies. I've done a bit of research on the ECE 44 thing and it appears that it is an accepted standard in NZ. It does have the orange ECE sticker with details.
It is rear facing only, so thats not an issue.
So only real issue now is no expiry or manufacture date.

If it doesnt have an expiry or manufacture date then I would return it ASAP, it could have been made 5 years ago and it expires soon, and that is why they are going cheap. They sound really dodgy to me.

Forward facing is one of the 4 arm positions
Least it's got a 7 day guarantee

Our capsule said it was suitable up to 13kg but DD stopped fitting in it (width wise) when she was 8kg!
I wouldn't use it until you find out the expiry date or manufacture date. Also ditto what the others said. Can you email them and find out?

I asked:
What is the date of manufacture and the expiry date for the seat?
they say:
date of manufacture: may of 2010
