Can anyone tell me what this means? Apparently I have one (according to recent scan), but is it a good/bad/neutral thing, especially for labour, and is it anything to do with feeling braxton hicks early on? -------------  |

Heya! I would say we should chat about this on Sunday, but chances of me going out then are a bit slim! Same story with me - it's the placenta sitting at the front of your uterus, on the belly-button-side of it. I was told that this could delay my feeling the baby kick for a few weeks, as it kind-of cushions things, and that the only thing about it that could ever be a problem is that the baby mightn't be keen to face your back for delivery, so could increase your chances of a 'back-labour'. That said, my midwife tells me that some babies will just face whatever way they want to, regardless of where things are at in there, and some do turn to face the right way during labour anyway. It shouldn't mean early BH though, least, not that I've been told. But at 23 weeks it's not too early for them, is it? An anterior placenta isn't something to worry about. Thanks Andie, as for gender we STILL couldn't find out and the Babe was too low and front facing to see the end of the spine... so back for another scan we go (but really only because I want a third try at finding out  )
Are you chances of going out on Sunday labour-related or tired-related???? (hopeful!) Oh I'm not concerned with BH this early, I had them early with Hannah too (not Briona - how strange). I was just wondering if you're more likely to feel them because the placenta is in the front. ------------- |

| Hey, I have an anterior placenta also, aparantly it doesnt mean a whole lot, just that after the birth they have to make sure that it all comes out, so if someone other than your midwife delivers for you make sure that they are aware of it, other wise you are at a higher risk of infection |

Ive got an anterior placenta as well. I read somewhere that only 5% of pregancnys have anterior placenta, but I dont know if thats true or not. I got one as well. Not alot of problems though. as long as not covering the birth canel. It does mean that you will probably have to wait to feel the baby kick more and if at front not as strong. Also means that you may grow bigger because 'extra' at the front. These are all true in my case. ------------- Ann

Hello there..just lurking!
I had an anterior Placenta. It did take a while for to feel the movements as with my first I felt them at 16 weeks. With Blake it was more like 20 I think. Im not so sure about the "bigger baby" part. Blake was 5 weeks prem but a good 6pd10 born..so possibly could be some meaning in it!!! The only time they get worried about it is if the Placenta is lying over the cervix and does not move during your pregnancy. See ys all -------------

I have anterior plancenta as well and also with my previous 2 pregnancy. I didnt find any problem. Nothing to worry about as long as its not to close or covering cervix opening. ------------- http://lilypie.com">

I have one - no problems here. Did take a while longer to feel movements though (I think the first I felt was at 22 weeks) which my midwife said was fine fo someone with the placenta at the front. Thanks everyone. Well I'm certainly feeling kicks these days and as for growing maybe bigger... well the bigger the better is probably the case for me as I always measure low on the fundal height scheme of things. We haven't started those measurements yet this time around but with the other two (one 7lb 3oz, then 8lb, 4oz) I measured 1-2cm behind the whole way. ------------- |
