I am in the process of slowly moving out of my house and have discovered mould on the curtains and a bit on the wall, What are you failsafe ways to get rid of it? I have soaked one of the curtains in nappisan overnight but that didn't work.

I'm thinking I will probably end up having to make new curtains

TIA

Someone told me soaking curtains in nappisan was a big no no. I cant remember the reason for it though.

Not that i have tried this yet, its on my to do list. But making a baking soda paste and putting it on the moldy bits, give it s scrub and soak in the bath, then drip dry on the line in the sun.

For walls id just use Exit Mould or baking soda & vinegar.

Sugar Soap works great on Mouldy walls. I spent a day trying to get mould off our curtains. Nothing worked - I washed them and put them on the line, so all least they don't smell. I suspect i'll be needign new curtains too.

We live in a very modern home and before we put a HRV in the only room that got mouldy was the master room and we just recently took them down to a place called Curtain Clinic in Takanini and it cost $25 per drop + GST it is well worth it and our curtains look good as new.

I googled this a while ago as we had a small bit of mould on our spare room curtains. I made a paste from water and salt and put it on the curtains, let it dry and brushed it off. It worked really, really well and I didn't have to do it a second time though you just repeat as necessary.

tania - i would just try and fade it as much as possible and hope they don't notice. Vinegar or lemon juice and lie the curtains flat in the sun? Curtains are bloody expensive. I'm guessing it's a landlord situation? Really it is not your fault it is a damp house, there is nothing you can do to prevent some moulding on curtains if the house is damp.

How big is the mould spot (and how big are the curtains). I have some curtains i've just taken down in our house if you need some! They are in great nick but we have just done up Alex's bedroom.

Its pretty much every curtain int he house, when we moved in the landlord was complaining about how the last tenants let the curtains get mouldy, i'm not sure if she replaced them or not, I don't think she did cos these ones are so brittle they rip when you close them.

Apparently the landlord turns into a B#$^% when the tenants move out, she took the last ones to court and tried to get $20,000 out of them. I don't think she got it tho.

Geeez Tania!!! Im glad I didnt end up renting that house! We looked at it a few years back!

Mould is VERY hard to get off curtains, once its been there a while(and sounds like it has) it sticks like Sh*t to a blanket. I would try that curtain place in takanini and if that didnt work, then eeeek, new ones?
